Horton fan search

Postby jensenkennels » Thu Mar 13, 2008 3:10 pm

I'm going to start my search for a Horton fan for my '93. Can someone help me with part #?
My shopping list includes - fan, wiring harness, and clutch.
Am I missing anything?
Any leads on where to start looking?

The factory fan will move 7500-8000 CFM, IIRC. A Horton setup will almost double that.

What's a Horton fan? An engine-power fan with an electric clutch?

When it's around 100 degrees outside, I can overheat my truck within 5 minutes of 25 PSI, 1200 degrees EGT. I prefer to drive through the desert at night so I don't have to alternate between 80 and 90 MPH to keep from overheating.

I would tend to think that's a problem more germane to a crappy 20 year old radiator than air flow, though.

There was one in Phoenix Craigslist not too long ago. Beagle, you shouldn't overheat in the 100+ heat.

Might be radiator time. I needed a new one after mine was crunched, and it doesn't even hit the halfway mark in the heat with the air on.

The pre 91.5' CTD have the downflow radiator unless you swapped it out. I know on my 89' the tranny fluid will heat up the coolant thru the heat exchanger, and thats with a fairly new radiator too. I always attributed that to the 3spd transmission, high rpm's and towing. If you go with a new radiator I would get a crossflow, not a direct drop in but I think it would be well worth the time and effort.
