Whats a 5.9L Cummins

Postby KTA » Thu Jan 04, 2007 6:36 pm

Ok I have a 1st gen with a 5.9L cummins. It has a 4.02 bore and a 4.72 stroke for 359.45 cubic inches. I guess Chrysler didnt learn proper rounding since my valve cover shield says 360. Just wanted to start a post in my favorite forum. :D

Chrysler just didn't want to get away from the 360 logo. You know those early 360 v-8's were screamers. So what's the latest on the 14mm KTA pump head ?

Well I guess it is important since the 5.9L reign is over as the 6.7L takes over for the future. So how long will it be before someone puts a VE powered 6.7L in a 1gen?

OK I have questions about the B5.9 Cummins (12-valve.) Does Cummins still make it, for other applications like trucks or tractors?
Wasn't it seriously de-tuned for the Dodge pickup application?
Can you still buy one from Cummins?
And how long do I have to be a noob? It's kind of embarrassing.

The 12valve 5.9 is still available for non-emissions applications. As for was it detuned, well kind of but not really, depends on when you were talking about. The highest horse 12V was the 370hp P-pumped marine motor. The highest on land rating was 250hp, also for a P-pumped motor. The highest rated VE was 192hp, but still in the 400tq range so not alot more than our 160hp, 400tq rating. The noob thing disappears after like 6 posts.
