DUMB QUESTION NUMBER TWELVE

Postby BEARKILLER » Wed Jan 31, 2007 6:48 pm

On the wife's 91.5 I/C, located directly under the exhaust manifold, is a cylindrical looking apparatus with coolant lines going in and out of it.

There is no such animal on my 89 engine.

What, pray tell, is this apparatus??

Thanks.

Does this cooler take the place of a cooler in, or in front of, the radiator; or, does it have both??

I can't keep her still long enough to get a good check on the oil, let alone examine the rest of the truck.

I had the dipstick in my hand, the other day, and almost got ran over. :?

For the sake of conversation, it's my understanding that heat exchanger is actually intended as a trans fluid heater.

The trans fluid to air exchanger up front dumps excess heat on the hot days, and the heat exchanger under the manifold brings the fluid up to a minimum temp in cold weather (engine coolant temp being maximum).

I am shure it serves as both a heater and a cooler, but usually a cooler since a tranny will run over 200deg most all the time.
