INJECTION PUMP QUESTION-- ENGINE SHUTDOWN

Postby BEARKILLER » Wed Jan 31, 2007 10:13 pm

Please clear something up for my weak little brain.

On my injection pump, there is one wire plugged into a device with a skinny metal line going up and over the pump; I assume this is the cold idle advance business. Am I right??

Above and closer to the engine, sort of harder to see, are two more wires plugged into two seperate positions, about an inch, or so, apart.

I figure one, or both, has something to do with shutting off the engine.

What function do these wires perform??

Now for the main question, does the engine shut-down valve energize to allow the engine to start; or, does it energize to shut the engine off??

I guess what I am trying to say is, if the engine were running, and one of these wires was un-plugged, would the engine continue to run??

Now I am more mixed up than before I typed all this.

Thanks.

The device you are talking about is the KSB or the cold start device so you are right there. The device on the rear of the injection pump with the two wires going to it is the fuel shutdown solenoid. Like KTA said, it is energized to run. It has a metal plunger in it that gets pulled up when the key is turned on. One of those wires going to it is the hot wire with the key on. The other wire is getting it's 12 volt source there as well and goes up to the inlet air temp sensor in the intake then back down to the KSB solenoid which looks just like the fuel shutoff solenoid on the rear of the pump.
