My "mild" build ideas, what do you guys think?

Postby Bookshelf » Thu Feb 01, 2007 7:23 pm

I'm thinking of doing a HTT 62mm, POD's, 366 spring, BHAF, 4" straight exhaust, the usual pump tweaking, and bumping timing to one of my trucks. I was also thinking of putting a second gen lift pump w/ a bypass regulator on there. Is this going to be a reliable combo I can tow 7K with? Am I going to have my eye glued to the pyro? I want more than I have now, but I don't need to be getting into putting a fuel system, etc on it. Thanks

I dont see any problems with that setup unless you are high altitude. That is a similar setup to my 93, and it stays hooked to a trailer pulling 15000lbs all the time so its 23000lb gross. My egts stay between 1100-1300 running 70-85mph in the summertime. These 3 mile 8% kentucky grades we have around here will certainly warm it up and you have to back off the power some, but it still tows fine. Your egts can be controlled by your right foot. That HTT should do a better job cooling than my hx40 too, at least they claim they do, I know I lost 250-300deg of egt going from the stock h1c to the hx40/16.

what do you think about my fuel pump idea, using a second gen lift pump w/ a regulator? I would put the first gen piston one in, but I hear people can suck those down to near zero at full throttle.

I don't know "what people" can do that. I put one on mine and it never goes below 10 psi at WOT. I have the fuel turned up right to the edge, but stock injectors.

I'm sure putting a set of big injectors in would cause more of a pressure drop. I think it was DPuckett or wannadiesel that made that statement.

It seems I recall wannadiesel was able to pull his down to 5psig.

I'm not sure what the problem is with that though, I'm still learning. I may be wrong with my numbers but it's apparently worrisome enough that he's installed a supplemental fuel pump. :?:

There is another piston pump that puts out waayy more pressure. One of the guys on TDR put one on his truck and had like, 25 psi. He wasn't ready for that much fuel so he pulled one of the springs out.

I see no problems with using a second gen lift pump and a regulator, should work fine. The second gen lift pump supports around 400rwhp max properly, so you shouldnt have any problems with it supplying that setup.

KTA, what do you use on your trucks? If I put the HTB2 62mm and POD's on, I should be right around 400 hp?

I dont think POD's are big enough to go 400rwhp. I would guess that setup to be in the 325rwhp range, and with a good head or cam or both you might go 375rwhp. What I run on my truck is in my sig. If you are asking about my B-1 it was the biggest version back in the day, which is the current lateset fad turbo. It is 62mm Comp Inducer and 71mm Exh exducer. with a .80hsg. I believe this is referred to as a Super Phat shaft or some crap now, or low drive pressure trubine. It is supposed to be the latest and greatest but mine is 6 years old now.

If you buy a regulator, will you want one with a return feature, many do not have them?

I was thinking of a return style regulator between the filter and pump. I haven't stuck my head under the hood to examine the feasibility, but I figured on just changing whatever is there(probably banjo fittings) to -6 braided line or push lock hose.

What is a good set of injectors to get into the 400hp range? I went with POD's when I put a newer head on, as my old non-ic injectors wouldn't fit. I really didn't notice much difference over the stock ones. About the same hazing at idle, and I can black out the road behind me, but I could do that before.

my htt 62 is awsome. I have stock injectors but I seriously cant get the pyro over 1000 deg. I don't tow so I'm sure it would go higher with a load. It spools good and is off like a rocket once the boost guage moves. Some kid got a video on his phone of my last dyno run, it was awsome. The truck rolled smoke out when I punched it and when the turbo lit it disapeared and sent the graph on a almost straight up power curve.
