BANJO BOLT?

Postby CAJUN 93 » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:55 pm

i'm installing my piston lift pump this weekend. yesterday while staring at the engine getting my mind straight, i noticed that the banjo bolt on the outlet side of the filter housing (right next to the pipe plug i removed to tap for the boost gage) has a small (appears to 1/8 pipe) plug in it. is there any reason i can't remove that plug and tap a fuel pressure gage into the banjo bolt? looks to me like it would work.

thanks

I think you will find that bolt is a 6mm o-ring thread, not an 1/8NPT. I think there is enough material in it to tap it to 1/8 NPT though.

Most of them have a 4 or 5 mm bolt in there. If it has a pipe plug, somebody has already been at it. I bought a new one and drilled and tapped mine. The bolt is VERY hard. I could not go very deep with the tap. If you go too deep, you will be thru the top of the bolt, into the shaft. The ones from Genos have a thicker head. I also drilled out the banjo bolt side holes on both bolts, for more flow. :D

It is a 6mm. Is this a ok place to read fuel pressure?

I have my fuel pressure gauge hooked up there, works fine. I got one of Geno's bolts and installed it rather than fool with the stock one.

I have performed both methods. My conclusion is "time is money"

Amen to that. And if you want a 1/4" NPT tapped banjo (for feeding an auxiliary pump) GDP has those.

I picked up a "fuel injection pressure test kit" last time I was in HF. It has the correct metric o-ring adapter in the kit to use on the stock banjo. It is usefull for testing, but for a permanent guage I would get the ones from genos or similar.
