If the transfer pump is your problem you can use the holley no problem, even un regulated as most holleys max out at 16psi and the VE can easily withstand that.

Sounds like the fuel shutoff solenoid may have gone south on you. If they go out, the truck will die like you turned the switch off. If you cycle the ignition switch on and off you should be able to fel the solenoid cycle. If it is out, you can get the truck home by pulling the solenoid off and removing the plunger and spring. Put the solenoid housing back on and see if the truck will start. If it does, the way to turn the motor off is to use the shutoff lever on hte side of the pump.

This is a common problem with these trucks.

Thanks guys! Couldn't id the solenoid as one of the wires broke off. Fixed it and ran her for a bit before she decided to swallow chunks of the air filter.

lookin' fer a terbo now.....

What are the options for a garret turbo as a replacement unit? say a t/3 t/4 A/R60?

Huh? Can you translate that for me? My knowledge is limited, and when you get outside the Cummins realm, I'm lost.

What's wrong with the Holsets? Not trying to pick a fight or run you down, but just wondering. The Garret turbos require water cooling as far as I know, or many of them do (more opportunity for leaks, clogging, etc). The holsets are designed for the engine as an OE fit, why do it different if you dont have to? Unless you are after a BB turbo or something of that ilk.

I had some other opportunities to purchase one cheaply and was going to go that route if need be....case of I want to get her back on the road and couldn't find another holset at the time.

All the Garretts I have owned looked and operated no different from the Holsets on the Cummins.

Maybe a different bolt-pattern, not sure, but now that the question has came up, I will lay a Holset gasket on the flange of one of the Garretts and see how they differ.
