Turbo's

Postby Falcon » Wed Feb 28, 2007 3:08 pm

I thought I was getting to know this stuff but I don't. A stock HX35 has what size compresser wheel? I can get a stock turbo from a 98. Can anyone tell me what size the compressor wheel is? It also has a 12 cm WG housing on it. Right now I can't keep my turbo from barking when I get out of the go peddel fast.Should I get a larger compresser housing? If I do what would you reccomend? Thank you for your time in this matter.

The HX35 from the 98 should have a 56mm compressor wheel (inducer). If you still have the stock H1C compressor side on your truck, the HX35 should eliminate the compressor surge.

It isn't going bigger on the compressor side that eliminates surge. The HX35 and WH1C have a Map Width Enhancement slot cut in the compressor side that reduces surge, whereas our stock H1C does not.

Right. The MWE slot helps. You can let up slower on the go pedle too. You can install a larger turbine housing which also will help.

You can still bark the newer turbo. I have an old H1 that I cut a slot into and it helped. Takes a little more effort to bark it now. With a little larger turbine housing, the air isn't pinched off so much, thus the compressor is turning a little slower when you pick your foot up.

Ok I can get a 98 HX-35/ 12 cm wg in good condition for $250.00 or I can get a HX-35/16cm For the same price. I already have a 12 cm on my H1C now should I go with the 35/16 which I know nothing about or the 35/12 that I know is a good one?

There really isnt much to checking out a turbo. A long as it spins freely, and no blades hit the housing, consider it good. Personally, I'd go for the 16, especially if you are barking with the 12 now.

Get yourself a HTT Stage III and the bark will be gone. Much better turbo now, I get lower EGTs and more boost and the scream is great.

I think most, if not all, of the bark should be gone by switching to the HX35/16cm. If not, just let out of the pedal slower :P
