Check out the link for the best prices on VE fuel solenoid. It's the same as the VW Golf diesel and Rabbit diesel parts listed:

I have a turned down one in mine, and Daledozer has another one. I had a buddy do them, he turned it in a lathe, used a drill bit for a tool. Then he touched it with a fine file. I have 3 or 4 k on mine, lots of WOT blasts, still works good. :D

Well got tired of tearing up plunger tips so i decided to fix mine. as follows:
ground off all rubber with wire wheel, pressed on a regular 1/4 20 nut on the little nail-head looking tip. Then mounted it in drill turning it down on a belt sander . Got it to the same shape as the rubber tip.
Installed today and it WORKS. Will keep yall updated, have taken picks but they came out blurred.

p.s. Would i get more fuel without a plunger? It seems to tear the tip when i have run it hard not when the pump is turned to max like its a restriction.

It's interesting that it works with no rubber! I would think that it would let fuel thru enough to keep running.
Good job Tommy, keep us informed!

I can't quite visualize the nut part. Can you explain further?

I ground the nut into a round tip that looks like the rubber tip. Thought about making a plunger out of solid steel but this seemed too easy.
So far it is working fine with the excption of hard starts. Seems i have to bump it over once then it starts right up. Will keep yall posted.

I bet it's heavy enough that the solenoid can't pull it up. The lift pump helps push it open!

It's spring loaded when you turn off the key the power is disconected and it shuts off. the solenoid is an electromagnet, very strong. i did not consider the weight being a big deal their is not mutch left of the nut after grinding. it's no bigger than the original rubber.

I have a turned down plunger as Pete stated and mine does not start like it used to, almost like the engine looses prime, or it does not pull up quite right.

High pump pressure from pump being turned up to max seems to blow a notch in the plunger tip. results in engine not shutting down when key is turned off.
