Fuel Cone: To Grease or not To Grease?

Postby Begle1 » Mon May 18, 2009 4:46 pm

Should I grease the fuel cone contact surface upon reinstallation?

What kind of grease?

Why shouldn't I use a dab of grease?

I finally bought a carbide tip for my Dremel tool.

i like to use white lithium grease .

the fuel pin marks on the cone are easier to see when it's greased , when checking to see if your getting full movement of the fuel cone .

Im not going to say much here but if you use to thick of a grease it can break stuff in a pump ive seen guys rebuild pumps and use white grease to reassemble and in doing this is was so tight clearence that the grease didnt give any and was breaking internals.....if you going to use anything use white engine assembly lube that comes in a tube it is soulable doesnt hurt anything and can go through a fuel system without any problems thats what i have been using for the past year in assembly on every one of my pumps that I rebuild and ship out....same stuff that KOLB diesel and Scheid uses pick it up at your local NAPA for around 7-8 bucks

This is the fuel cone, though, no fuel is supposed to go on it, and the clearances arent that (relatively) tight. I do see what you are saying when it comes to internals.

It came from the factory lubed up, I'd say put a light film of grease on it.

A little grease couple times year is probably the only thing keeping by soft BD pin going.
