Fuel pressure

Postby GO OVRIT » Thu May 28, 2009 6:40 pm

How much pressure does a 12mm pump actually need? Is a constant 10-15 enough? With the boost line hooked to my regulator, it freaks me out seeing the gauge jump to 40 or 50 psi when I get on it. I'd feel a lot better not wondering when I'm going to blow the seal.

I'd almost bet you will blow your front seal if you havent already- 40psi is way too much, even for a hopped-up 14mm H&R.

I like to keep mine in the 10-15psi range, though 20 is the max as a general rule.

I think this is one of the times when less better, as long as it holds pressure at WOT, sustained.

I'm running an Aeromotive 13204 regulator. My base pressure is set at 10psi. I know I read on this site that higher fuel pressure wasn't that dangerous when the pump was flowing higher volume. Is that only true with a 14mm h&r? I plugged the boost reference after the first day just to be safe, and it holds a constant 10psi no matter what. If more than 15 or so is a bad idea, than I guess there's no reason to have a boost referenced regulator with a 12mm pump.

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago (years) where somebody was going to use a case pressure gauge to compare the effect or relationship between case pressure and inlet pressure. I can't recall ever hearing the results of that. I doubt there is any significant relationship. If that's the case then, the complicated, regulated, boost-referenced high pressure fuel delivery systems are a waste of time and money with the VE injection pump. Good plumbing and a high-flow, low pressure pump should be all you need.

I just hooked up my fuel gauge to do another test start tonight and I'm running at about 23psi at idle, I still have air in the injector lines to work out not sure if that will drop it or not. Is 23 going to blow the seal out of my pump? Do I need to put a regulator in? If so what does everyone else recommend?

I've always read anything over 20psi would blow the front seal out. I would look into getting a regulator for sure.

I've heard good things about the Aeromotive regulator. I believe the part number is posted above.

I like the aeromotive one except being another 200 in the hole after shipping. What do you guys think about this one? http://www.jegs.com/p/Holley/Holley-2-P ... 1/10002/-1
