J-jets?

Postby Begle1 » Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:25 pm

Do we have saddle jets or J-jets? Do we have the oil rifle for J-jets?

Unless you put a common rail motor in you have saddle jets and there is no provision for j-jets.

Oil jets for the pistons.

Everything before the common rail has saddle jets that get their oil from the main bores. When they went to the common rail they put a new drilling in the block for J-jets that shot oil more directly into the piston.

Common rail 5.9's have provisions for both; lower horsepower engines had the saddle jets and higher horsepower engines had the J-jets. With the 6.7, they all have J-jets and saddle jet provisions no longer exist.

J-jets are the cummins term for the bolt in piston cooling nozzles which do spray oil. In the 6b series they are intended to spray into a gallery in the bottom of the piston that allows more cooling to the piston crown. That is how come they can run continuous 1300+deg EGT and make 325rhwp without melting down.
