Valve spring compressor tools

Postby Begle1 » Wed Jun 17, 2009 3:13 pm

How do you guys compress your valve springs with the head still on the engine?

Two pieces of plate steel and a screw?

Anybody have templates? Cummins wants $90 for it.

I use one by KD. Two arms of unequal length, and a starwheel on top to tighten it with.
Not sure if theis is the exact one, but it looks the same.

I purchased the one advertised in the Genoe's garage catalog. It is a lisele tool???? Can get 'em from NAPA too.........

It didn't work well. I had to perform modifications to it. Now it is quite the tool I might say. Works really really well. I SHOULD patent it, seriously. I wouln't be with out it!! ;)

I have the one Pete linked to KD2078. There's a 'better' or premium KD tool part number available for about double the kd2078 costs. Available at NAPA. It has a plastic/polymer handle instead of the metal handle and I think it might have a 3/8 drive slot for a ratchet. I've used the cheap one, kd2078 many times with great success. Only thing after you've done a few your hand might get sore. I usually place a rag over the handle. If I were to do it again, I'd get the better one. Greenleaf is correct, the Geno's/Lisle tool is junk. Unless modified of course.
