5x.012 or 5x.014 injectors?

Postby Mr. Bob » Thu Sep 17, 2009 7:10 pm

Looking to upgrade and want to either run 5x.012 or 5x.014.. Will be running either a HX40 or an S300... leaning towards the S300...

Which injectors will better match these turbos???

Thanks!
Bob

5X.012's are 370's

5X.014's are 435's

Both of those are capable of making 400rwhp, but the 435's will flow more fuel, obviously.

Richie has 6X.016's in his daily driver (hopefully he'll chime in) and I don't *think* he likes them for a daily driver. They haze all the time but if you want all out performance they would be your best choice. Of course, Richie is also running stock timing. :P

I don't know if the make of the injector affects how much if hazes or whatnot, but if your looking for a clean injector, the 6X.016's probably aren't your best choice.

OK... so the 6x16 may be too much for what I want.. Im looking for good performance with good road manners too..

I had a 4000lb travel trailer which I sold and am looking at aprox the same weight trailers.... I will adapt to more fuel with a larger turbo if required too.. I have purchased neither the turbo or injectors... Just looking for a good combo....

Currently have my electric fuel pump setup, 3200 gov spring and a denny T stage II fuel pin... Planning to add PSD intercooler and 24V intake elbow and 4" turbo back exhaust...

The 5X.014's and a Super HX40 would be a good towing combo, but around 400rwhp is the limit for an HX40.

The S300 will be able to support more horsepower than an HX40, but they are generally laggier, so towing isn't their strong point. I'm talking about a 62/71/14 S300, just for reference.

With conservative pump tuning, you'd be able to tow and keep it cool, but I'm not sure how controllable smoke would be.

Philip tows with a set of 6X.018's and an HX40, but his pump is also very close to stock.

I'm trying to get information from a very knowledgeable person about 6 hole injectors right now actually. He says there is no need for a 6 hole injector, and most companies that make them, aren't doing it correctly. I'll post more as I find out, or I may ask if he'll join up over here and let us pick his brain.

If you want good mannered sticks then 6x16's are not it. :D My 93 has them but it only has an upgraded 60 mm GDS wheel and a 16 cm housing. The 300 is on my 89. It is the smaller 57mm model. I guess you need to decide what power your after and if you want to have sustainable power towing. Any egg head ( me ) can make good power, but being able to use it towing I have not addressed yet due to lack of funds. If I were going to tow on a regular basis I would get an S300 62/65/14 gated turbo, and a set of mild DDP injectors, updated intercooler ( I know you said that already ), full 4 inch exhaust, custom 3 inch intercooler tubes. The truck needs lots of cool air to make power for the long run. I personally feel that anything over 300 hp to the wheels is not sustainable without some big bucks. I know my 89 is at 297 hp and no way could I run it hard with a trailer. My 93 I do tow very rarely with and have to keep an eye on the pryo. It would eat the engine in about 30 seconds. :D

FWIW adam cornell with the 1300 hp cummins in the white ford that was in diesel power a couple months ago only runs 5x.014 injectors. so that shows you right there 6 holes arent needed.

The 1300 hp truck also was running a p-pump and they are a completely different animal when it comes to sticks. The VE pump likes a 6 hole injector better for some reason. From what all the pullers around here with p pumps prefer 5 holes. I had a set of 6x18's with a A5k and I had no haze and easily contolable smoke until I took of the AFC then it was a different deal. With the 5k I could clear all the fule from the 6x18 and all of this was still on a 12mm pump.
