Injector popping off early ?

Postby MMeier » Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:33 pm

Short of taking them all out and getting checked, is there a way to tell if one might be acting up ? Truck starts right up with a flick of the key, idles smooth as can be, gets the same mileage it always has. Just the thing has been smoking more then usual, especially when its cold. Cranked the full power screw back out 1 full turn from where it was, helped quite bit, but now power is down ! :(

Do you have a boost guage?
Is it possible you are losing boost pressure due to a slipped boot, or some other leak?

Had these same symptoms on the '96 I sold pulltilbroke and he found a rolled intercooler boot that sealed for a while then came loose.
Don't know HOW it happened, just that I missed it.

My reaction to the smoke was almost identical to yours, I turned everything back down, with the same results.
Mine actually sounded different when I wound it up and let off, the turbo spooling down sounded different.

you should be able to test each injector's timing dymanicly with a timing light and a tool that measures the injection pulse through the line. ( the tool i have is made by snap one , but i'm sure other company's make them too ) .

you also will have to figure out how to accurately mark your front pully to take your readings from with the timing light .
