high idle

Postby Swaggs » Thu Dec 03, 2009 5:45 am

So, twice now, I got off the highway, and my truck is idling between 1500-2000 rpm. and continued to do that. it made it pretty difficult to drive, just letting off the clutch im goin sideways. haha..
any suggestions?
before I got on the highway, I was idling around 600, everything seemed fine.

try backing your fuel screw out 1/2 a turn.
does your rpm keep getting higher as you drive? maybe your locknut on your idle is loose and letting your idle screw move in farther. that has happen to me.

Hanging RPM is usually means you are close to runaway. I'd back off the fuel screw at least 1/2 turn and see what happens.

well i feel kinda dumb, but my high idle was caused by the idle screw. I dont know where my little jamb nut went, but when i was on the highway, the screw made its way out, and held my idle at 1800 rpm or so. its all good now.. and to think, i parked my truck for two months because of this.. hah..
