Running without a turbocharger?

Postby Begle1 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 4:21 pm

Not that you would ever want to, but would you be able to if you had to?

Could the engine cruise at highway speeds without EGT problems if the turbocharger was totally seized up or missing?

On a stock pump, you could run with no turbo. A seized turbo would be very restrictive and you'd melt stuff.

I had run with a shafted turbo for about 20 miles, and I think if I would have retarded the timing a bunch it would probably run without melting, but you would have to be very carefull with the load pedal.

I took the bareings out of my baby h1c. I drove about 8 miles home and ran 900 to 1100 deg. at 45 mph. Talk about smoke  I was running 40in tires though so stockers I'm sure have less rolling resistance.

The day I put my WH1C on I kept blowing the IC boot off of the compressor housing (nevermind the cobble job I had to make to run the thing w/o a flange on the comressor side) I finally got it all to hold together OK, well on a hard 5th gear run, it blew the boot off again, so I kept going (back to the house anyway) hehehehe HOLY SMOKE!! EGT's wernt TOO bad, but with a siezed turbo, thatd deffinatly get HOT FAST. No turbo, quite possibly. I dont know about highway speeds though.
