bad lift pump?

Postby cumminspuller98 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:51 pm

the 89 is hard to start, like fuel is bleeding off when it sits over night. i cant get any pressure on the lift pump levar. is it possible for a bad lift pump to let the fuel leak off?

Possible. Not entirely sure where to begin looking if that doesnt solve it.

IF you can, hook up a pressure gauge after the filter and see what you get. Should be 5-7psi at idle, >3 at WOT.

Get one of the tapped bango bolt like in the pic, and put it where the air bleeder is above the filter assembly. http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp ... ONG-TAPPED

Just a thought, Mine was doing the exact same thing. It turned out to be a bad seal on the quick disconnect at the lift pump, sucking air and letting the fuel drain back overnight.

My 93 has plastic fuel lines that have a quick disconnect where it attaches to the pump. Your 89 ( like mine ) will not have that.

You see,
Just when I think that I've learned something about these trucks, I open my mouth only to find out I don't know squat.

Sorry for the bad info, I'm moving my chair to the back of the class.

Fuel pressure

This must be an epidemic, I am having the same problem on my 91.5. It started right after changing the O-ring gasket on the fuel filter mount.
