91 cuts out.

Postby 2001shrtbedcummins » Sun May 13, 2007 4:03 pm

Okay. it will cut out a little above 1/4 throttle as if it runs out of fuel. I've bought a new fuel filter (had truck almost a month now and haven't changed it yet) so how do you change the filter. I got a quart mason jar of diesel ready to prime if need be. What all do I need and what is the procedure?

Unhook wires from bottom of filter. Unscrew filter assy.

Unscrew fuel heater from old fitler. Install new O-ring onto heater assy. Reinstall heater assy onto new fuel filter.

Fill new filter with fuel. Install new filter. Hook heater wire back up.

Break the bleeder screw loose on the outlet line of the fuel filter. It takes a 10MM wrench. There is a lever on the left side of the lift pump. It should be in the up position. Move it up and down till you have a clean flow of fuel with no bubbles. Put lever back to top position. If you do not have fuel flow. Bump the engine a little.

Tighten the bleeder screw. Start engine.

alright. Does this problem sound like a clogged up fuel filter?

Does the miss stay in all the upper RPM ranges when it starts acting up?

sometimes it will do it and sometimes it won't. It will do it right about when the turbo spools good.

Very well could be a plugged filter. If that doesn't fix it change the lift pump.

I AM FIXING TO ORDER MINE FROM GENO'S- FASS HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FOR 426.55. THE FASS IS MORE EXPENSIVE BUT HAS BEEN HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ME FROM THE OTHER FORUM (I HAVE TO GO THERE TO FIX MY BABY)
THE LAST PUMP WAS FROM MIDWEST FUEL INJECTION- BOSCH FOR 167.17. WE JUST NEED TO RELOCATE THE LIFT PUMP ON MY TRUCK AND HUBBY WANTS TO START NEW. HOPE THIS HELPS AND THEY BOTH HAVE WEB SITES IF YOU WANT TO CHECK PRICES OR ANOTHER BRAND.

The FASS fuel pump is a high-dollar electric model to replace the appalingly cheap electric Carter's that the stock VP-pumped models had.

For the first gen application, a $200 mechanical piston lift pump can push over 400 HP worth of fuel, and as far as I can tell has a MTBF of 250,000 miles.

The FASS is a great pump, but one must be wary of the fact that the first gen VE injection pump is only rated for 20 PSI into it. On Geno's page the FASS is rated for 16PSI at 95GPH, but I don't know what it's regulated at.

Not to nitpick, but could you push the Caps Lock button once in a while?
