Cowl-induction IC

Postby Douglas » Tue Mar 02, 2010 5:52 am

hey-Hey!!!,
I have a '90 and '91 non-IC'd trucks and am considering mounting an IC over cylinders 4 and 5. I'd cut a hole in the hood to take advantage of the high-pressure at the base of the windshield. I'd enhance the low pressure under the hood with an air dam( the '90 is lower already ). IC would be mounted to the engine shaker-style( with some damper/isolation mounts ), and would avoid some length/volume associated with the usual up-front mount. Thoughts? Am I out ov my mind for considering this approach?
cheers,
Douglas

Years ago Mack truck did the same thing so you aren't going where it has not been done before.

i have seen a few done in the diesel mags, it looks ok but i dont think you can get the air flow you can in the front of the truck.

hey-Hey!!!,
Do you recall any of the hood modification details? Was there anything covering the cooler to take air in from as far rearward as possible? IMO, that would be quite useful.

There is a fair pressure differential there as evidenced by how well the foot-well vent hole flows when open, and while it might not be optimum, it avoids some other hurdles with front mounting. An air dam will help this in any case...how much is indeed a good question; my employers won't allow me to schedule windtunnel time for my own stuff...heh-heh-heh...:)

the one i remember the best was a powerjoke and it was the size of the hood, it was gigantic with nothing over it
probably a fair weather driver.

I have nothin' that nuts in mind. I figured about half again the area of a 92-93 and a bit thicker. I *DO* have a spare hood...

On the flow, even up front having a condenser and radiator behind it does a fair job of getting in the way.

id stick a 6-pack or a super stock scoop over it waaay before a cowl.
