What are the best injectors for a 12 v with minor mods

Postby decalman704 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 7:17 pm

I just bought my truck, a '93 single cab dually with a trashed transmission.
My trans. is built and I just ordered my T/C from Goerend.
I have also ordered a denny T fuel pin, a 3200 rpm spring, 4" downpipe and have turned my fuel screw all the way.
Now I need injectors .... was thinking of the Lucas POD's but the article in Diesel Power has caused a nationwide back log for these.
Now I'm thinking Bosch 300 or 370's. Any advice?
Plan to upgrade the turbo or replace with a larger one.
also plan on water/meth injection.

Main topic now is WHAT INJECTORS???
Please advise.
Thanks

It depends on how much power you want and what you plan to do with your vessel.

source automotive has them for out trucks. you can make one pretty easy if ya know a decent welder, and it would be cheaper.

I'm building this truck as a complete toy, a hot rod just to have some fun in.
I don't have any serious towing or pulling plans, just want to do all of the things to my ole 12 valve that can be done to make it haul ass without putting it in the shop all the time.
I figure a 400 to 450 hp range is pretty easy to do without losing regular drivability.
I'm just getting started so any input would be greatly appreciated.
Got the downpipe from Source.
I travel all the time with my work and the truck is at the shop with the new transmission waiting on the Goerend converter I ordered today.
I'm trying to get my shop to do as much of the "first round" things done as possible while I'm out of town so I can come home to a sweet ride blowing a bit of black smoke!!!

If it's a toy and you plan on adding the supporting parts, 6X.016's are the way to go, in my opinion.

Will the 6x16's work O.K. with the mods I have listed and a stock turbo, that is my budget for now.
I've got about $6000.00 in the truck so far in the past month including the price of the truck.
I plan replacing the turbo on or maybe sequential turbos 'cause I have a buddy who owns a big truck diesel shop and he is a great fabricator when I can get him to work.

How well does that 14mm pump work, is it worth the money to power ratio?

Any name brand for the 6 x 16's or a website that might have them priced best?

Your stock turbo is going to hold you at 250 to 275 hp. 6X16's will work with a stock turbo if you leave the fuel settings low. 450 is not an "easy " power level for a 1st gen. There are not many trucks with over 400 hp. I think the easy hp stops around 300. ( thats because I can tune 300 and im simple ) :D

Well I guess I'll be stopping around 300 then ;-)
I too am simple.
Is it worth the time to upgrade the compressor on my factory turbo and the smaller (16mm) housing or should I just save up for a new one?

I had a '07 Megacab with the 6.7 but never had a chance to do anything to it, it was a lemon. 68 days in the shop in the first year, Dodge bought it back. So this '93 is my first chance to make a fun diesel truck.
One more thing.... is the 14mm pump head from Brian Block or Rocken Tech a good investment and good power adder?
Thanks for any and all input, I hate learning things the hard way!

The 14 mm isn't recommended for daily drivers. Needs a lot of supporting fuel system mods.

It's a waste of money to "upgrade" the stock H1C to a 60mm compressor, and your '93 should have an 18.5cm housing, so a 16cm wouldn't be a huge difference. Just save up for a good turbo.

14mm H/R's are for competition use only. They require a lot of fuel to cool them, and in daily driving situations they'll burn up.

Thanks guys for the info. I can't wait to get this thing going!
I've only driven it once! Up the street and back with a slipping trans. Been working out of town for the past 2 months and should be done in a week and going home.
I'll post some pix when I get 'er on the road.
