Postby 93DodgeCummins » Sun Mar 21, 2010 9:41 am

I replaced my old thermostat #3917324

I bought a new one and now my water temp is warmer than usual.
So i bought another one thinking it was a bad thermostat and im still having heat problems
the old thermostat and the new ones look different
Does anyone know where i can get the thermostat that came out of it? (its the part number listed above)

Where did you get the new ones? Do they have the same temp on them as the old one? You say "heat problems" what exactly? These trucks like it around 190-200 or so.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

If it doesn't get past more than 2/3 of the gauge range don't worry about it. Engines actually wear less when run at higher temperatures that is one of the reasons todays gas engines commonly run 210+ as normal and typically last 200,000+miles. If you have a good radiator cap you can run as hot as 220 and not hurt anything, my trailer puller runs the last spot from the H on a hot day and has done it for years.

I have noticed this year my 93 is running a little cooler. On my isspro temp its running 165 to 175. I would lile to see it hotter. I guess I will have to chance a thermostat change and hope I get a good one. :?

If you got the new ones at NAPA or such that may be the problem. These trucks like Cummins brand 'stats, it's just one of the quirks of owning one. ;)

I use NAPA. The Cummins replacement stats have proven problematic for me and, from what I read, nearly everyone else.

I do like the idea of not relying on the OE gauge. A Westach would be a nice (and reliable) addition.
