16cm exahaust housing

Postby Power Ram Man » Sun Jul 22, 2007 1:32 pm

i was wondering if a 16cm exhaust housing was good to pull with, my friend who is a mechanic tells me not to do it because i would not be getting enough air out the exhaust side and will evenually burn a piston i realy dont know what is the right size for towing and for more boost which i despratly need only getting 19 psi right now

I bet he works on ferds, right? Put the 16 on and don't look back! I put one on mine and haven't had a problem. I was towing about 11k last week, and I'm running a lot of fuel. On the level I was running 1000* to 1100*. On the hills, 1200* to 1250*.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

hw works on alot of tractors and gassers and a few powerstrokes see he thinks my motors going to blow because of all the problems ford had with the small housing i keep trying to tell him that a powerjoke is a total different motor but insists that a diesel is a diesel hes what do you call hard headed

As long as you're keeping a good eye on the pyrometer, it'll be fine. The 16cm is a good all-around housing; "choking" the exhaust isn't much of an issue unless you're running a 12cm housing or an HY35.

There is no way a 16 will starve you for air...I have 3.5 turns of the naughty screw, ground pin, and a stage 4 turbo upgrade on a 16cm and finally hit 1100...I had to dog the bajesus out of it up a hill to get that. :P

16 cm towing

Postby charger 69 » Mon Jul 23, 2007 7:12 pm

I have a 16cm and pull about 10-12K when I do it and the 16 cut the black cloud in half starting up with a load. I also have 3.5 turns on the fuel screw which puts the boost at 28 lb under load. Climbing a hill I have to watch the hot meter but that isn't because of the housing,it was a great improvment for mine.

I never saw more than 1100 on the pyro with my 16 and the pump cranked all the way even before installing a Powerstroke IC. But evidently the stock IC injectors won't flow enough fuel to roast a marshmallow, much less burn a piston, so YMMV.

It would be a good ideal to start soaking the turbo nuts with PB Blaster now, it works real good to spray them when you park it while it is still warm.

You will love that 366 spring as much as the 16 cm housing. :)
I can get mine too hot by dropping the hammer at too low RPMs. Once I am at 2k though I have enough air to burn all that fuel.
