Guess Its about time...

Postby ahale2772 » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:14 am

.... For my headgasket to pop :(

Pulled a hill today, hit 45 lbs and then She was running like crap, sounded like a valve died. Did a cylinder drop test and 2 and 3 were not very noticable, checked the compression of 2 and 3 and they both gave 100 lbs, then put compression to 2 and 3 with shop air and they were swapping spit something horrible.

Im hiping scott at mass diesel will get back to me today, im going to throw a new gasket at it with some 12mm studs, im hoping the gap between cylinders isnt flame cut from driving it home (5min)

Anyways... 330k i guess i was due :/

They are good ellis, i'll throw a straight edge on then tomorrow to make sure but they look good, i only drove it for about 5 minutes, im sure i would have been worse any longer. Ive seen some bad "torch cut" surfacees in my day, not mine.

BTW 300,000+ miles, still see the cross hatch on the cylinders. 8)

That's pretty cool! Mine was all disintegrated up by the thermostat housing, it was oozing water. I'm sure the timing up to 2.25 didn't help either.

(I read a thread somewhere else). ;)

IMO, If it were me, I'd bottom-tap the block, put in some basic A1 studs, grind those valve-cover webs where needed, and be done with it. Asking over there can be comical.

Now back to our regular program. :batman:

what a BIT** of a job.

I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate doing in-chassis work. next time I will pull the whole deal, pressure was the living crap out of it, then do the job.

all went together OK, didnt have the time to bottom tap the block, or clean it, or paint it, or even look at it.

had enough fun getting the surfaces clean without dumping crap in the oil galleys.

# 3 piston had a weird nick in it, hope it didnt gouge a ring, didnt have time to look it over hard.

didnt get studs, mass diesel dosnt stock anything apparently. tourqued stock bolts to 130, they all did well. re-lashed the whole mess.

took SSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long to bleed it, IP was cavitating, not getting fuel to the injectors. finally got it stumbeling with ether (I KNOW) and it ran well enought to bleed all the air out of the lines. finally got it running ok, but I swapped to a different set of non-IC injectors. they run kind of anemic (Spelling?) its one of those things that I'm tghe only one that could tell, but spool, smoke, and general drivability are off. not running like it should be.

belt decided to not want to stay on the tensioner this morning, jumped in the maxima, went to work. need to modify my tensioner, ive got a ribbed one from a bus on, seems to not agree with the alignment of the crank pully.

I dono... :/
