TDR, worth it?

Postby peobryant » Thu Jan 01, 2009 1:08 am

I have been thinking about joining up on the TDR, and was wondering if it is worth the fee? I think they send out 4 magazines a year, and for those that get them, do you like it or should I just spend my money on something else. I am always looking to learn more about the Cummins, so does the TDR have good info?

Thanks

The TDR has a wide range of info. When I want to know about my truck, I ask here and/or there, anything else I am curious about, I ask over there. The site has all kinds of forums, guns and hunting, trucks, political ( ) classifieds, and a bunch of others.
The mag is 4 times a year, and has about 180-200 pages. Lots of good info in it, oil testing, brake theory and operation, new products, and posts from the website are included. There isn't alot in the mag about our trucks, they're just too old. There is also the "Travel Companion", it's a country wide listing of people who volunteer to help if your truck breaks down when traveling, and the calender. Lots of nice pics in the calender.
I like it, and don't see leaving there anytime soon.
You can call or e-mail, and they'll send you a free mag so you can check it out, and the website is there to see too.

i remember they were tossing around the idea of an internet only subscription, but i dunno if it ever materialized or not. might be worth looking into. iirc the only 1st gen stuff in the mags is when they take some posts from teh 1st gen section and print it.

i am sorta a member there, my dad gets the magazine, and i stole his member number to get on the website. sometimes i steal his calanders when he is napping, but dont tell!

Alright, seems like a pretty good place. Are they really strict over there, or is it really laid back like over here?

laid back. [not quite as laid back as we are but almost] not much moderation there. good people.

the ats incident thread was moved [to mod section] which i disagree with. if it happened then folks have the right to know. another thread discussing the thread being moved was started and robin explained why and what for. it is still going on and folks state their opinons. if it was dtr then the thread wldve been deleted and members disagreeing with site owners wldve been banned permanantly.

they figure the letter wasnt for public consumption and they are afraid of trouble apparently. if the letter was posted here it wldve remained where the op posted it.

the TDR staff run things pretty good for the most part.

I'm about to sign up now, but have a question. The one year subscription is $35, does this include access to the forums? If so, then how do I set up my account over there?

Thanks again

You and King Pay-it-Forward- Bill  . Though he has given me some stuff through the years. He saw baling wire (the thick stuff, not electirc fence wire  ) in leiu of a throttle rod, and gave me one he had that was an early upgrade on the ends. I think it's on Jeff's truck now.

TDR is worth it, IMO. $3 a month is nothing. Lots of good info. I especially like when Roger (g/f's boss) says "Have you heard about...?" "Oh yeah, read it in the TDR 2 issues back. That isnt quite right, here's the real poop..." I've done quick TDR searches when they've had issues that were out of the ordinary. I've even done some diagnostics for them, but dont let them know I said that.

Hey! Quit picking on Bill! He doesn't like to pay for anything, but he'll give you a POS if you need it for something. And he thinks it's worth a favor in the future. ;)
Bill's helped me out a few times, he's my buddy! ;-)

Yup, TDR is worth it. I don't have a Cummins at present and I still have my sub. just for the misc. info I want. And until I get a Cummins again, of course.
