I nearly caved to the peer pressure today. I almost put in my Suncoast converter. I removed all the cooler lines, shifter linkage, TV cable, inspection plate, and park switch wiring. I then proceeded to smack myself on the forehead and thought, out of the last +/- 365 days, it's been down for maybe 10. It's getting borderline reliable

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

Maybe I'll get it done over spring break in April. I hate to disappoint you folks  I've got it to the point where it's fun to drive even with the valet switch closed, which is how it's set 90% of the time. Maybe I'm lame and I like a 200 hp truck

Nothing wrong with being lame and not getting tickets for speeding.

I have ran a lot of miles with under 200 ponies and had plenty of chances to get in trouble with that much, believe you me!

Oh yeah, check the parts section, there's a cure for your low-horsepower blues listed there.

Shall I go out and take a picture of a 225 hp valve cover sticker for you?

A P-Pump 12v 1st gen sure isn't my cup of tea. I wouldn't stoop to that level  After my self inflicted 47RH issues, I'm a drivetrain purist. I'd like to have a G56, but the likely hood of that happening isn't good. I'd love to have an hx50 under my Hx35, but it's just fine the way it is now. I just don't have the desire to swap around a bunch of parts.

The fact is, once I can finance it, I'm buying a 4x4 Old Body Style Power Stroke. Whether I bomb it like my Dodge is to be seen. BUT, before some people let out a sigh of relief, I'll keep my Dodge for as far as I can see. I can't afford to get rid of it. It's worth nothing, it's cheap to operate, and it does 95% of everything I could ask for in a truck. I'm here to stay. 8)

Mine has a '97 auto crew cab and it's got pep for being stock. Original sticks, HPOP, and turbo with 260,000 on the ticker. It's been maintained really well though. It weighs something like 7500 lbs  It's got power, but it lacks mid range torque. The weight is what I love.

Yeah dads is a 97 with 90k miles and its a slug. 4x4 F350 auto with a 12' flatbed. I can give him a truck length head start and out run him in my 24V 5 speed truck.

My foreman and I had a 7.3 Powerstroke and it was a slow pig, even when empty. The company had a fleet of 'Strokers and in the winter all of them were plugged in (ours wouldn't start otherwise) and a few of the workers had them as well, which would be plugged in when they came to work. I'd get made fun of for being the only one with a Dodge, and when they tried to tell me my truck wouldn't start after sitting all day without being plugged in I smiled, cycled the grid heaters twice and she started on half a revolution. Pissed some of 'em off that a '91 Dodge starts better than their 2 or 3 year old trucks.

It's just as well, they are a piece of crap, bearing burning POSs with overpriced parts, anyway.

At least you have the sense to realize that, even stock, the superior truck is the Dodge and it's already outlived many PowerChokes and IDIs, not to mention the disasters GM built, with more of each getting justifiably flattened every day.

Put money on the turbo pedestal being bad or the HP oil pump is weak, two VERY common failures on those. Either one will make it a turd,well......more of one

Sounds like a C&C. I suspect they used a detuned mill for those, but I don't remember. A worn E4OD can be a real sap of power too.

Parker, glow plugs are the key with those. Cycling them 3 or 4 times does the trick in my experience, but the danged things burn out about 10 times more frequently than grid heaters. My truck starts like a dream at 10*, no huge cloud of gray smoke, hitting on all six. Dad's grey smokes and idles weird no matter what when it's 10*. FWIW, even through a 727, the SOTP dyno says my Dodge is more torquey. Mid range torque once I'm rolling is something that I really like about my Dodge. Put a load behind it and the effect is amplified.

Wait a minute, didn't you once admit you liked that tan extended cab? At 90k, I doubt the HPOP took a dump. If the EBV was stuck, it would be pretty obvious as well. They sould like a 6 Leaker when they do that. :yuck:

Not all idi ford diesels were bad,I've known several that didn't die in excess of 400k. Most were not that lucky, farming crowd here are subject to murder a truck with poor maintenance and horrific driving styles. While still not a 89 to 98 dodge they were very reliable if taken care of. No excuses for Chevy, there was waymore bad than ever good, only way you could make a 6.2 start was 24volts,and there's no way to make a 6.5 worth owning.

Everything has been checked out. It has a new hpop and trans in it. Its just a dog to me but better then his small block Chevy dump truck. He hates diesels and looking to get rid of it.

Caleb,I've seen hpop go at 45k,I don't put anything past a vehicle, especially ford. And the turbo pedestals can do all sorts of crazy chit, ever seen one that wouldn't get over 40mph before the motor was totally hot? Seen several.
The oil pump that went out at that low of mileage was owned by a man that liked to change oil a 7500miles cause "it holds 4gallons",in his words.
Honestly, they're good trucks, just buy one from a peson thats not a dumba$$,that changes oil at 3500 or less and you'll be fine. Other than that your gonna play Russian roulette with a pistol with all the chambers loaded. keep the old dodge and be happy
