One way to find max fuel with throttle travel is max speed. (Beyond gov spring rated rpm)With a 3800 spring there may be nothing to gain beyond 3200 rpm with excess travel. (By excess I mean high idle stop cut off, linkage about 20ish degrees from pointing straight back at wot.) On the other hand, maybe it's possible too much travel at lower rpms causes a reduction of fueling, or the "governor shakiness" RC mentioned once? I've noticed rolling into the throttle seems to give better output sometimes, tight afc or not.
