Putting miles on something does not bother me, but I'm not liking the fact of losing $12 before I get to work and $12 on my way home. What it boils down to is I either get a $3 raise or I lose money compared to last summer.

Makes the 5 mile drive to work look all the sweeter. Yay climbing the corporate ladder.

If this pans out long term, I'd put pen to paper on a TDI. I'd do the same for a $2000 civic.

I can't swing a new vehicle just for the summer. I'm "only" spending $1440 on fuel. By the time I bought and played a 4 banger, I'd be behind paying for the gas.

Yeah, but then you'd also have a spare vehicle so you could turn the Ford into a cummins powered hotrod if you wanted

I have the one in a million 7.3. It actually starts well in the cold. I plugged it in once to see if the block heater worked. We've been having over night lows around 0 (~-20 for you dman) and everyone else with one whines about how they won't start. That's part of the reason I don't think I should ever get rid of it.

I'll own that SOP bit. I failed to complete my due diligence in checking every thing out.

Jokes on me in the end. The dodge would put 6-7 mpg on this ferd and it wouldn't matter with that good of fuel economy.

Maybe a little propane fogging on the highway could bring up the mileage. That depends on the price of propane though. Pretty much the same price as gas here.

Does anyone have a picture of a 2nd gen frame without the body?

I've been trying to get through that one. Got a few pages in then had stuff to do, and haven't gotten around to finishing it yet

I commute 100 miles a day in one of my 2 Dodges. So basically the 1st hour goes to commute expense. Fortunately they let me work a 4 day 10hr shift. Also, if they call me in they have to pay me a minimum of 4hrs. I've tried the disposable commuter route, but that didn't work out very well either. The cost of maintaining a junker and the shear terror of getting run over by idiots that can't drive kept me going back to my trucks. My wife drive a Subaru, it gets 30mpg. That's no to bad and it is a decent little car.

That's where I'm at. It isn't like the truck is " low miles" or something. I've heard stories about people with $500 beaters that run for years with no maintenance. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I drove a $200 1987 iirc Dodge Charger to work and school everyday back when I started college in 2002. A four cylinder 5 speed with a carb and 1.7 miles of vacuum lines under the hood. I'd say I put about 100 miles a day on that old junker. Not pretty, but worked. If a girl will go out with you when you drive a piece like that, then you know it's cause she really likes you and not because she thinks you've got a lot of money. I got tired of messing with it and gave it to dad and he drove it to work for a year or two after I was done with it. Anything can break down, but I was so happy to be able to able to get something a little nicer.

I still regret not buying dad's '94 camry with 200k+ on the clock. Almost 30 mpg. I'd be loaded (and a lousy mechanic) if I'd bought that instead of diesel trucks.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled today. Boy is that ever uncomfortable. The one was in pretty much fully sideways, so that took some effort to get out
