Man I'm really sorry to hear that Eric. I hope everything works out for the best for you guys.

On a note of stupidity on my part I believe I've pinpointed the source of my mystery oil leak to the T I made to join my oil drains. Turns out I didn't weld it good enough, and it's leaked this whole time. I'm going to try some silicone at least as a stop gap measure until I get home, and can take it back off, and weld it good.

You know I never really thought of how bad the gear splits were on the 5 speeds when all I had was The Roo Hunter to drive, then I got jaeger with its 6 speed auto, and listened to Phillip and others talk about it, and now driving the old girl again I've really noticed how huh? the splits really are descending a hill 4th is usually too high, but 3rd is a little too low. Low speed climbing hills 2nd is too low, but 3rd is too high. It's all really rather annoying.

5 speeds suck, imo. 6 speed for the win for sure. Now in saying that....... I don't own a 6 speed, but do own a 5. lol

Granted the 6 speed in jaeger is basically a 5 speed with and extra gear on top, but the splits are actually quite nice, and while it still an auto I have set it up to lock the converter from ~15mph in 2nd all the way up, and it stays above 1300 after the shifts without seeming like it's screaming before the shift. I'd consider a g56 swap into The Roo Hunter if I could find one for cheap enough, then sell it once I can put the 6.7 in it, and it'll get a fmvb 48. Even though I don't really like the pattern on the g56.

I hate the gutbag in the crew even unloaded. I can't afford a g56 so it will probably end up auto.

Dman drive a NV600 for a while. R is one of its mistery gears. When shifting from 4 to 5th you don't know if you will find 5th or reverse. Finding reverse is worse when stopped. With R to the left and down is nice on a G56.

I witnessed a buddy at full power try to grab fifth three times grinding the car rap out of reverse one time.

Yeah, I suppose after getting used to the pattern of an eaton 18 speed the g56 isn't too bad.

About the only good thing about a 5600. You can sell it and buy two G56's with the asking price on them.

That would be nice. My only problem there is I don't have any nv5600's to sell for g56's. Just this awful getrag. Which has also had a problem shifting into third for a few years, and hasn't started occasionally not liking going into 4 on a downshift. New bearings and syncros did nothing to help 3rd.

I did polish my knob at the same time I did my wheels, so it's nice and shiny

5600's don't like to be shifted too fast, every gear will grind before it goes in unless rev matched almost perfectly. Mine shifts smooth as butter if shifted somewhat deliberately. I've personally never had 4-reverse shift issues. I also won't invest money in another one if mine breaks either, way too expensive. I don't really like the rubbery feel of the g56 shifter, but I'd take two of those any day over one 5600.

I've had a weighted b&m T handle knob on mine since my dad got it, which they say helps with engagement , but I don't know, it still sucks. I might just keep my eyes open for a decent deal on a g56, or a wrecked 05.5+ Manual truck to rob what's needed.
