The g56 is a noisy junk tranny also. The 4500s have to wide of ratios but the parts are cheap to keep them going. The 5600s are way too expensive to fix, and must be kept up on checking oil so they don't eat the rear bearing. Truth be told I'm not sure dodge has ever put a good manual tranny in any diesel trucks. They all have their issues and short comings. I've owned, rebuilt and drove them all none are that impressive. When I buy my next truck it will be an auto. They aren't any better nor cheaper to fix. But after driving so many customers trucks with autos I'm beginning to like the idea of just getting it and pushing the go go peddle without listening to my newer trucks tranny sound like a washing machine full of marbles.

The zf6 that Ford and gm used is fairly loud too. It shifts not too bad, and the ratios are decent, but when you're driving a 12k+ f550 with 4.88 gears, and 245/65r19.5's it never really has a lot of oomf. That's the 6 speed I have the most experience driving. I drove a zf5 f450 once, but that thing was absolutely gutless, and you had to wrap out the gears just to get up to speed. The 6r140's in the new superduties has nice splits, and when 4.88's are in the diffs it'll get right into 6th at 30mph

Well it is official.. My house is for sale. We have been looking for more land for quite some time now but haven't really found the perfect place yet. But this is just the 1st step in the process. If I can get my place sold that adds a whole lot of flexibility and such for when the perfect place comes along. Timing works out great, as my sister is moving out of state so if I end up selling my place before the next one comes up I can rent her old house for a while.

So if anyone wants a nice really nice place on .5 acres in NE Ohio.... Hit me up!!

That looks cool! Too bad about the weight. I bet it cuts down on vibration though. ;)

That top cutout is awesome Farmboy........Mine is a plain teardrop like on a G56 shifter, except not nearly as elongated. It looks incomplete because we couldn't (didn't know how) to write a program that would engrave on a conical surface. Should have milled the top like you did.

It's from 2 1/16" round stock that we didn't turn down any, so it fits real good in the hand but makes me nervous about my shift forks in 2nd and 4th. I"ll figure out how to post my first pic :o

Upload to photobucket, and copy/paste the bottom of the four links. That's the easiest way to upload pics to forums unless you're on compd, then I've never truly figured out how to mod the link to get it to show up.

Thanks guys!

I have an engine I got for $200 since it had a broken cam. Maybe you're just looking in the wrong places.

I figure the 7.3 craped the bed......he just won't divulge the info. Happens when you own a ford.....you get to throwing out incoherent thoughts and let everyone just guess what's going on.....until it's too late.....kinda like a woman.
