looking at a new gun

Postby ellis93 » Mon Oct 03, 2011 2:30 pm

I'm thinking on buying this particular gun and figured I'd see what you all thought about it. It seems fairly versatile and in person with it, seems like its made well.
My plans for it will be mostly snake control from setting positions, on top of 4-wheeler or tractor , might even ride next to me in the dodge replacing the 38 that's there now.

That's what I'm thinking.
I'm thinking this thing will probably replace all my hand guns. I don't see how I'd really need anything else. 410 shell for up close problems, or a .45 bullet for dirty chores 8)

I prefer one of these. Easyer to carry full time. Hides easy.
The 410's are not bad in it. The 45's do produce some recoil.

Night fire with silver tips is impressive.

I had planned on buying the Judge at some point until the S&W Governor came out. I think i shall by that version now since I am a big S&W fan. But from what i can tell the Taraus are a pretty nice gun, the guy i deal with at the gun store isnt a big fan of them but he likes the best stuff so that is to be expected.

I've had a few Taurus revolvers over the decades. I only had a problem with one and they fixed it for free. Where you are, a Judge would be practical and would serve you well. In AK, you'd want something a bit more potent. There are always a few for sale in the local want adds because someone found out it wasn't that practical up here.

You've got me curious as to what's up there that a .45 bullet won't stop. Bears, moose..........

45 acp is a big bore but slow moving chunk of lead. Look at the muzzle energy created compared to a slightly smaller 44 mag.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_energy

The specs on that gun are 45 & 410. I'd imagine the 45 is one of a shorter 45 acp's and not the 45 mag.

I bet a 410 slug would back up just about anything at close range.

It Takes the colt shells, which according to the article is the slowest moving. They're also basing that movement on muzzle length. I don't understand the math yet but think I'll try to look at it a little more in depth tonight.

Mr Darwin I bet it would too ;)

   I hope he survived that issue.

That gun the thread was started about shoots the 45 long colt round. Big difference between it an a 45 ACP round. The 45 long colt can be loaded up pretty good. Do not truy and hot load a 45 ACP.
