It happens at all of them. At Dhl if it said fragile most of the guys did everything they could to break it. I saw pallets marked fragile ran into the 4' tall ballard poles by forklift drivers. They use to make bets on who could break the most expensive thing in a night.

Put nothing important on it and make them think they are shipping phone books. Then no one has the incentive to steal it or destroy it. Forklift drivers love to smash wooden boxes so beware shipping in a box on a LTL. If you do you better mount it to a heavy oak skid so it is in the center and they have to crush 2ft of pallet to get to it. Then take into account they will sit 1000lbs on top of it to so be sure you build it heavy enough to support the weight. If i was shipping $20k items i would just drive them there myself. That would be WAY cheaper than eating them.

Pretty sorry state of affairs when these people get their kicks by damaging stuff and do it knowing that their employers take a stand AGAINST the customer, when in reality it's the WORKERS destroying the stuff.

That does indeed leave me wondering...

Y'all should try shipping vacuum tube amps and their tubes, especially directly heated ones like 211's or 845's. last time those were made in the states was long ago, and the new stuff just isn't up to snuff. I pack for shipment by linear accelerator, and then insure the heck out of it. With a straight face, when I get asked about fragile I just say, 'not any more'.
cheers,
