How much does that thing weigh? I bet it eats Swampers for lunch on the pavement.

Very cool nonetheless.

So what transmission are they running behind the Cummins?

Not sure what it weighs or if it eats tire as this was the first fire of it. Its sportin a TH400. It will be more of a fun toy than a hiway cruiser

the are surprisingly light, the one in my yard with an aluminum body, glass doors and hood, is pretty easy to toss around even with the tired old 6.2

I know for a fact that a stripped down M998 (Military Issue) Humvee will tip the scales at over 6k, and that's with the old 6.2L, soft doors and top too So, if I were a bettin' man, I would put this one over 7k as it sits. The armored versions, M1151's, eat tires like mad, we got mabe 5000 miles on a set when I was in Iraq, but there were several factors too. We had to run BFG Baja's, and Goodyear MT/R's on ours, they have a softer rubber compund, and combined with the 12000lbs of the armored variants and all the "geardo" crap the guys had on them  , tires didn't last long  . That Cummins is gonna be screaming for mercy with a TH400 behind it, the combination of the geared hubs and the ratio in the diffs put it at a good 4.30?ish to 1 ratio, the 6.2L"s and the 6.5L's we run don't like highway speeds at all. They do very well off road, using what AM General calls "brake/trottle modualtion", the goofy a$$ diffs will kinda lock up and these things can crawl over just about anything :D Can't wait to see it finished Andrew, keep on with the pics!!!

They aren't too terrible, but the chassis and suspension of these things give them some heft, but it keeps the center of gravity really low, that's how they can climb and side hill without going rubber up....

funny you say that, My dad keeps comparing it to our Unimog, how its not built as well, but we both agree that its the only vehicle I would want to be in if I was getting chaced up some steep hill in the middle east

the chassis and suspention are pretty beefy. Final drives are always nice too, makes a differential twice as strong

Why are you guys comparing a POS CIVILIAN (H2-H3) version to a MILITARY version?

Just another damned YUPPIE with more money than brains, the way I see it.
Why not build something practical?

This is a H1, the only difference in this truck to the one the military uses is some churched up interior and a 12volt electrical system. The original drivetrain is the same pieces that go into M998's and up. The H2's and 3's are a far cry from the H1. Yeah, they look a lot similar and all, but that's about it. The newer ones don't have the torque baising diffs and gear reduction hubs that this one has. ;)

where do you get this from? have you ever driven a hummer? they are super capable rigs, one with a 6bt in it would be damn neer unstopable...

I have a military hummer in my yard....I was not comparing an H1 to anything else....
