Truck search

Postby ahale2772 » Mon Feb 06, 2012 11:56 am

SOOO...

I've been looking for a second gen for a long time... about 4 months now, just a nice driver of a truck

anyways... every truck so far has fallen through, first a nice 1stgen, then a cheep secondgen and a few others.

FINALLY think I found one worth sinking my teeth into.

1995 4x4 3500 dually Auto.

its a single cab, and by far the cleanest looking truck ive seen yet, price tag was 2500$ last night...but then someone went and bought it (missed it by an hour)....and then put it up for sale again, for 3000$. guess this guy just buys and sells trucks, so hes making 500$ off me

anyways, not a leak on the whole truck. Im heading down with the trailer in an hour :P

bad part is that it needs a tranny :( What should I expect to pay for a tranny with all new stuff? nothing performance, just a stock rebuild.

sink your eyes into this bad larry. Hope it all goes well

Stock rebuild should be around $1500-$2000 from a shop. Unless you are wanting to dig into it. At least upgrade the torque converter. Stock Dodge units suck.

You bought an automatic 4x4 dually to DD? Most would have bought a 2wd or a Jetta. :P

It does look like a good deal for $3k, if it's rust free you should be able to put a tranny in it and make some cash off of it easily.

That's a 47RH in there.
You should be able to re-build something like that yourself, with a good shop manual and some help from TXS (Tom).
Don't scrimp on the parts and get a good converter.

Or buy a 5 speed conversion. ;)

I GOT HER!!!

happy as a pig in shi* 8)

trans is all the way gone, only way it will move is in low range (to maximise the little trans that is left) and even then it wont do much more then atempt to roll. dont know where im going to go with that yet, should I spend money and get a better than stock TQ converter? I want something that is not a pain to drive because its a slug, but its never gona get anything more than maybe just some timing adjustments to maximize fuel economy, so im not looking for billet goodies or any of that junk

the mechanicals are very very clean, frame is in great shape, even the brake and fuel lins arnt a rotted mess.

the cab on the other hand.... needs full rockers on both sides, inner and outer, and its going to need fenders due to some bubbeling through. Going to peel the carpet up to see what the floor looks like sooner than later, dosnt look to bad.

story is, the onl man that owned it used to was the whole truck, even the underside, but I guess if the rockers are gona go... they are gona go. its surprising how some spots are just gone, yet everything else is beautiful.

you could eat lunch off the valve covers :) and the interior looks like no one ever sat in it.

3000$ is a killer price for a truck like this around here, some of you may think its funny but even with rotted rockers and fenders its pretty "clean" in my book. Im happy with it, not really looking for superb MPG's, just something that can occasionally tow, occasionally make a long trip, and be driven every single day of the week

had to pull the front trim rings off the rims to get it on the trailer

no other good pictures yet, but ill post some more soon.

Man, if that's "nice" around your area, then that POS '93 I just got is a "decent" truck, by eastern standards.
Being an automatic, your '95 should have 3.54 gears.

What's the status of the trans fluid? Smell, color, is it there??? Sounds like it is low on fluid or the front pump shattered the lugs.

Alex, tear off in that thing 8) nothing to it if you have the ATSG manual. Cost 20$
Figure on the bands, clutches, and papers/lip seal/metal clad seals costing around 200$, that'll leave you lots of coin for a super nice converter ;)
From what I've seen you take apart and fool with that trans will be no problem for you. Its a cake walk, besides BC has that awesome write up to go by as well.

Mark, even you would be impresed with the mechanicals, and the interior, they are borderline perfect. Better condition than my dads 02

but yeah... cab has rot.

Im Escared of rebuilding the auto Ellis

I kind of just want it to be simple, dont want a project, just want to send it out. I dont have the time for it, and if I did have time, Id rather work on the 1stgen.

anyways... the fluid smells burnt, and looks a little dark

when shifted into drive, it dosnt bring the rpms down like it should, seems like every once in a while it catches but then all a sudden its gone again.

what options are there for converters? how about the old suncoast, gorend debate? im told buying a kit is a good way to go, then have it built.

Suncoast and Goerend is who I would go with. Garmon And Phil from Diesel Performance Converters are having a pissing match about who is hurting whose trans because they used to use each others converters. DTT I think uses DPC.

I got one from a local guy here who built me a billet, ultra low stall lock up converter for about $550 for my 97. It works good, and when lock up hits, the engine is locked to the trans. No slippage there!
I would recommend a shift kit and a good converter, whether you rebuild it or have someone else do it. Since it's an RH, it should be easier to fine tune than my RE, all you have is the cable and the TPS. My RE was a bitch because it depends on the TPS heavily being electric everything.
