I wasn't gonna go there, then I figured, why not?

So i finally got all the parts to put this back together. The long block is all together except tge timing chain and cam retainer. When i pulled this engine apart there was no cam retainer on it. I ordered one from Summit but have a question. The cam is fully seated but there is at least a 1/8" gap between block and retainer. So is there suppose to be shims or do i have the wrong retainer plate? I really want to get this dam thing out from behind the shop this week.

Is the cam all the way back? Its not bound up is it? If you were to hang the gear on the cam, would it line up with the bottom?

Yeah it all lines up. I believe. Its the wrong retainer they sent me. With retainer in place you cant put bolts in the gear.

Okay the Chevelle forum says a flat tappet doesn't need a retainer plate. The only time its needed is on the hydraulic lifters so I'm buttoning it up.
