Problems?

Postby BC847 » Fri Mar 02, 2012 11:24 pm

Hey folks. :)

I've activated the forum changes so that newly registered members can see the Want Ad / For Sale stuff ONLY after 20 useful posts.

These changes will only apply to those who register from this point forward.

I don't think I've goofed-up anything else, but if you have problems, let me know. :)

"20 useful posts" perhaps wasn't the best wording on my part.

- You gotta make 20 posts in the regular forums before you can read or post in the classifieds.

It's hoped the posts are useful. I'm sure there will be some who post BS stuff just to run up the post count. We'll deal with that as it occurs

The goal is to have more folks register so as to participate in and contribute to the discussions of our 1st Gens. Not just use our forums as a Yard-Sale.

I am about ready to implement that on a forum I administrate... Get people who register, post a for sale ad, and never return.

I've still concerns . .. we've a LOT of members who've registered perhaps over a year ago, who've never posted. While this won't effect them, I wonder how it might effect those who register from now on and simply lurk (without interest in the Classifieds). :?

You can set it up so they can see it but not post.

I've dropped the post count to 10. My concern is folks will just post want ads in the general forums. I reckon ya gotta reach a balance somewhere. We'll see how it goes.

I have mixed feelings on this. I just watched a guy run up his post count because he wanted to buy something. I don't necessairly think he should be sanctioned because first thing he wants to do is buy something on this forum. But I completely understand why you (David) are doing this. You want to get people involved, and the regulars have a chance to get to know a newb. I know my friend Derek (smokinfirstgen) has never posted on here, but he has some good knowledge to share. He just doesn't have a computer at home. I don't really know, but I'm just throwing it out there. Respectfully ;)

Caleb, I see who you mean. Guy posted in a bunch of forums, just 2 or 3 words, enough to make a comment.

Yea, and I know exactly why he did what he did. I just hope he stays around and contributes

10 posts, 15 days is what I have seen some places do.

I've been watching, folks. ;) A recent introduction in our Welcome board says more though. 8)

I think we need to keep up with the big picture. We're after more members who contribute. Certainly we've seen folks who run-up their post-count with BS in the Lounge. That's why many forums don't allow post-counts in the Other forum boards. They only count in the general boards. In the case y'all are perhaps thinking off, one pretty-much had to at least glance at the threads to come up with an intelligent response. If one were here to simply bomb the classifieds, they wouldn't be so open about themselves and include info and pics of his/her ride(s). No harm, No foul.

Also remember that the unregistered public viewer can no longer see the classifieds. I can't help but think those registering solely to purchase my latest turbo for sale will drastically fall. ;)

Did You Know . . . .

As of today, with 2424 registered members, 817 have never posted? That's over 32% folks. A number of them go all the way back to early 2007.

Hmmmmm . . . . . .. . .

Ten post minimum, 15 days from the join date. This way they can't register, post a for sale ad with a number or email, and never return.
