Postby gobigorgohome » Fri Mar 23, 2012 4:44 pm

was out car shoppin and seena GTI that i thought looked ok, guy said he was jackin it up and it fell off the jack and put a hole in the door about the size of a quater. minor stuff right well i seen it needed new brakes and maybe an aligment and some other minor stuff. well i passed on it then but it kept comin back to my mind so i went back for a test drive and i got it and figured out the VW reverse thing then backed out and went to pull out on the street with the salesman in there iwth me and as soon as i got on the road i couldnt even get up to speed the clutch was slippin so bad!!!! at like 1/8 throttle in any gear it would slip if you even moved the pedal a tiny bit lol so i think he was embarrased and then with all the damage he still wanted 6k for it :? told him id give him 3k but he sadi he paid more then that for it, was a good little car tho kinda wanted it real bad :?

6 cylinder or 1.8L turbo? If the turbo'd, I would stay away from the 1st couple model years as they have bad sludge problems.

At 1 time, you got the VR6 GTI or 1.8 turbo'd GTI. The turbo'd ones get high 20's, low 30s. The 2.slow was a base model engine. The 12v VE Cummins of the VW world. They got swapped into a lot of older VW's. Now the VR6 is the P-pump Cummins of the VW world. Made big power and got swapped into a lot more older cars.

Mainly sludge if the vehicles maintenance and improper oil selection is changed. 5K miles and must be synthetic meeting VW's spec.

The N75 valve is a problematic and like the powerstrokes CPS. Also, any vacuum leaks makes them run like crap. I know these as I helped a buddy fix his Beetle.
