Made a tool to get it done. :D

NOW, I have bigger problem. Need to know how "tall" the head is, when new. It has been milled before. No shocker though. Not enough torqued down, and can't turn ANY of the push tubes (even with all of the adjusters completely backed off).

Are you sure the pushrods are in the lifters? Not to be a smart ass but it's easy to miss the lifter and set them on the block. BTDT, but I realized something was wrong before I tightened stuff up. .010 shouldn't make that big of a difference in lifter clearance.

I'll double check. But, if I did do that, I managed to do it to ALL of them. I did pull a few out, and stick them back in. No change? Something ain't right, that is for sure.

Took me a few tries but i got them in. Once you think you have them "right", turn the engine over by hand. I had one still stuck even though it looked and felt fine.

I put a dab of grease on the tip, if it goes into the lifter, when you pull it up it has some resistance, like a suction cup. If you miss, pulls easy. Just a helpful tip of the day. ;)

Thanks Pete and Jon. :)

I managed to miss the lifters, on every friggin one of them the 1st time. :bh: :bh: :finger: Been a VERY busy past 6 weeks! Working on the truck til 12am+ multiple nights on top of everything else isn't helping either.

If I can get all the rest of the parts I plan to replace in the am, and don't have another long day, I hope to have the ol' girl up and running tomorrow night. :D

It amazes me that "missing the hole" results in bottomed out adjusters, rather than not adjusting to specs at all.
Beats the heck out of replacing the head gasket thinking that was it, though. :)

No problem buddy! I know how it goes, BTDT, that's why I said to check it. ;)

Yesterday I had a message on my machine, it's a guy that lives around the corner, said he's dropping off his 2nd gen so I can fix the 5th gear nut. I was like, "huh? when the hell do I have time to do THAT!?" No warning or anything, story of my life.

Well............................, more crap to deal with. Got another problem to really rear its ugly head. Thought the issue might be h/g related, but it isn't. It's fuel related. Truck has always seemed a bit "off" when cold, but ran GREAT warmed up, with great mileage. NOW, it's shaking like a mofo. After I got it bled out and started, it has a pretty stiff miss. Adding the BD fuel pin and bumping the timing 1/8" made it VERY noticeable!! Went through and cracked the lines, and #5 is getting fuel to the injector, but VERY weak compared to the rest. Guess I get to pull the FSS and check the tip, and possibly pull the delivery valve on #5.

Don't know if something got into the DV while everything was apart (wouldn't surprise me if it did, given where I had to park it in the shop), or if the IP has crapped out.

Got my fingers crossed on this one................

Never had these on a stand, but when I pulled them last, they looked like they didn't have hardly any miles on them. However, it is the amount (or the lack there of in this case) getting to that specific one to begin with. There is a marked difference between this one, and the other 5 sticks.

You could just swap injectors around and see if the problem moves.
