Wheels, Polish? Spray Bomb? Sell?

Postby CumminsPower59 » Tue May 08, 2012 9:12 am

Ok, I got some wheels, not sure what I want to do with them. I ran them for two days, just a bit too big for the 92 with the front springs sagged out. Hits the fenders a bit.

305/70 16's on Eagle 16x10's. Rubber is right at half tread.

They need polished badly, I tried to hand polish them but some of the pitting needs to be really worked out. I think some of the commercial polishing wheels could smooth them out.

Or I could rough them up a bit and bomb them black.

Or just sell them.

I dunno.

What do yall think?

I'd go to harbor freight, web site or store, and buy some buffing wheels for a drill motor and polish them back up. Black wheels belong on foreign cars

I'd also buy some new springs,but I don't have a reverse gear,once I've started forward on a look I want ;)

I'd sell them. I nearly have a stroke when I see someone spray bomb aluminum wheels. Aluminum is supposed to be shiny! Steel can be black  They ought to be worth a fair bit and they look to be in decent condition from the pics. Unless you plan on lifting the truck soon...

I thought about the polishing wheels, I got a big truck chrome shop 15 minutes from the house, I looked at the wheels you would put on a large grinder, but they are quite spendy.

I want some of those front leaf springs that PJ3 used on his truck, but of course, I don't have the $$$ for them.

I REALLY want a set of 3rd/4th gen forged aluminum wheels, I already have the spacers for them. I would trade these for a set of those, if I could ever find a set. :(

Go to a local truck stop/shop and buy the three rouge bars and buffing wheels. It works awesome andthen replace your springs and run them. They really set the truck off i think.

If the paste is preferred,my uncle had a trick that he did. He'd take a bar of that stuff and shave some off with his pocket knife into a 20oz coke bottle half filled with mineral spirits, shake it up a little at a time and what he needed to polish his Mack with.

Sell them! I'll give you $50, bring them to Michaels.

Polish them up. ;) . If you have a spring shop nearby maybe you can your springs rearched, or a couple of extra leaves to throw in and raise it a bit until you can redo it.

I can help with the polishing. Won't be show quality, but can get them to look pretty decent. Planning to be out of town this weekend, but will be home the following, as far as I know.

There are several spring shops near Ike. Davenport Spring is next to the Mack dealer off of I-80. Might be able to fix you up.
NEW- '82 CREW cab dually. Cummins, NV5600, 205, D60/D80. :D Work in progress......

'93 W350, CTD, ext cab, 5spd., HTT modded H1C, 4" exhaust, Kelderman single bag. 537k and counting!

SOLD- '92 W250, CTD, ext cab, 5spd

SOLD- '99 3500, SO CTD, 5spd

Traded off- '97 3500 CTD, 416hp/892tq.
