The engine tag says NHC250. But for that year it wouldn't have had a turbo on it. This is a turbo engine by the tag. It has a later model water pump and drive pulleys that came out on a later model engine. There is no date on the engine tag eather.

He got it home on Saturday.

These things tend to grow on you. They are simple to work on. They run forever with very little investment after you get the other owners finger prints off.

What happens to this one depends on the condition of the engine.

you dont see many autocars down this way. i dont think they where built and geared for our long flat runs around here.i always heard they work great in the mountains. we have lots of old b-series macks though. i've spent the last 10 years resisting the urge to bring one home.

You will find most trucks in these year ranges geared with 4:30's in them. Also in that year range you were only looking at 60K scale weights. For companys running in the mountains. They would have geared deeper with the small HP engines that were in them.

The Mack's were cheaper than AutoCars were. That why you see more of them still around.

This red truck is a 68 model. The dark blue one is a 71. Both are called A64's. That is the alumin cab model.

He found it up in WI. He had someone go and get it. The thought of a 400 mile round trip in the 71 was not good. Its a good local truck. Long haul with no sound deadner in the 71.

Well we got the engine started today. It didn't sound to bad. The oil pressure looked good. The injection pump will most likely need rebuilt. It took a lot of throttle travel to increase RPM. It also took some time for the the RPM drop.

The big thing is it still lives.

Oh video to follow.
