My (hopefully) next truck

Postby m880cummins » Tue Jul 31, 2012 7:44 am

Just put a deposit on this truck! Pd $5k for it.

http://reading.craigslist.org/cto/3127089363.html

Drove it yesterday and brakes and suspension work great. Bed IS PERFECT!!!!!!! Cab has rocker rust and some in the drivers floor. I will tell you that a stock 92 EX cab auto is a dog compared to my M880 5 speed. The truck has like no balls at all. Needless to say that turbo will be junked for a better one and 2-3 days of deep cleaning will satisfy me until I do a crew cab short bed conversion like this:

http://www.buckstop.biz/Images/dodge/93/DSC06_lg.jpg

That is the EXACT color I would like to do. It is Jeep Mango Tango. I will instead do black wheels/toyos and black bumpers. NO chrome. Black interior with NV4500.

Overall, I think I got a decent deal for a truck with low miles. Has 3:54s (what I wanted for highway) and power lock diff in the rear. AC works and I figure I will gut the interior and clean the hell out of it and probably sell all the trim out of it. I already sold the bed off the truck to my buddy for $500 and figure if I do good work on rockers and drivers floor I could sell that cab for decent money too. Sell the trans/transfercase package that's in it and I should be in the $3k range for an investment in the truck.

My total pricelist is about $2500 so far for suspension and trans/transfercase stuff. I will do 35" toyos, moab rims and alcans with jungle shackle flip in the back. Along with this the truck will also get a 1" body lift to make the floor modification a little easier for the frame rails.

If you do the jungle shackle flip, try and ask him if he will sell you a set that have no holes drilled in them yet, would probably be waaaayyy easier to use existing hols in the frame (jungles kit dosnt fit our frames at all

Wow, did not know that.

Is that because the truck I am getting has 8" frame rails? I know they use the same leaf spring mounts as the earlier 3/4t trucks....

I may ask him if he can do a package of all the rear spring mounts and u bolt flip plates.

nope, none of the holes match up to any 89-93 trucks, not bolt on hangers at all. not even 3/4

Pretty darn close! Except mine doesn't have clearance lights. I bought mine with 123k on it, with the same amount of rust too. Must be the color scheme ;)

I figured with a good cleaning, rust repairs on cab (small piece for floor pan and fronts of rockers) and some maintenance I would drive as is and in the meantime do a whole body for it from fenders to bed to swap on. Then have chassis powdercoated and lizardskin on floors etc. I want it to last a very long time because at 18 I have a pretty good idea on what I want for a truck in the future. I will never want anything other than a 12v and the more cab space the better so here we are.

I'm right there with you. I can't decide if I want to do a single turnout stack or a topper with a turndown tip. I think I want to go with the topper, but hot damn are they expensive, and the ones I find that people are willing to sell for cheap are a thousand miles away.

I thought the same thing  No stacks for me, defeats the point of a long bed with a tool box

My truck came with a fiberglass one. It was in really good shape for it's age, only the latch needed work. I let it go for $2 at an auction. I should have advertised it here.

Is that supposed to make me feel better?

I'll find one eventually and if not then I'll just bite the bullet and buy one new. Probably when I get my truck painted that way I can have the topper painted to match.
