I'm thinking about becoming a heretic. ;)

Postby meby » Mon Oct 01, 2012 3:11 pm

I'm in the process of selling my reg. cab 2wd for a 4x4 extended cab. At this point not having an extended cab makes it really hard to haul my growing family with in the truck. I'm conflicted about buying a 1st gen v. a 2nd gen because of the flip down seats v. a bench (seats two v. seating three or four in the back). I guess what i'd like to know is their a size difference from a 1st gen to a 2nd gen in the extended cab part. Namely, could I add a bench seat to the first gen and make it work?

Thanks guys,

If you actually plan to use the back seat, get a truck with a bench seat in the front.

That would be slick. I really would like to stay with a 1st gen. I've not owned an extended cab of either 1st or 2nd gen, so didn't know if it was possible to fit a bench back there.

I found one with an W-350 extended cab aluminum flatbed that I have my eye on, if I can sell mine fast enough. Yippee!

Jon, Matt, I didn't go the Ford bench seat route, ended up finding an aftermarket bench seat that was originally designed for 1stgen club cabs. It works ok, had to fab up some secure seat belts. but I will pull it out eventually and try the Ford bench seat. The rear bench that I found would have to come out of a 97-0? F150 (roundish trucks) as the bottom/base is only 16" deep, where most rear bench seats are 20". The backs are separate from the bottom, and it attaches to the rear cab wall, and is short enough to fit well in the dished section of the lower rear window trim. Just some fab work and you'll be in like flynn!!!

I did some quick measuring, and might look into a 88-98 chevy truck rear bench.
