Bought a replacement truck

Postby meby » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:49 pm

I picked up an 84' w-250 4 spd tonight. Yeh, I know, its not a diesel. Most of my truck money got spent on a rented bull that went bat-sh*t crazy and went trotting around the county (I had to buy him). Long story. Anyway, i'll have to wait for a diesel until I can save up some more money. In the meantime I needed a truck for the farm. Its got the usual rust, but otherwise is in decent shape. I think I did okay at a $1000.00. I'll try and post a couple pics tomorrow.

The truck runs, but dogs pretty decent when I stomp on the petal. Is that a carb issue or would a good tune-up help?

What kinda carb? If its a thermo quad, throw it away cause it could be your problem and is 100% garbage.

Cool then you got a decent carb,I'd run some seafoam thru the gas before anything else. 1000$ trucks tend to have set for awhile before their found to be useless enough to be sold.

That funny. :D

I put in a can of seafoam and ran it some today. I also picked up a steering gear box, power steering pump and starter. The ps wasn't working in the truck. I thought I could run it that way for a bit, but holy cow, its impossible to turn with ps. I Promptly tore it apart when I got home and and broke the power steering lines and discovered the rag joint is squashy and that funny joint by the steering box is in terrible shape (not surprisingly). I might just wind up with a borgsen shaft before i'm done. 8)

Did the munchkin under the bumper come complete with his own step stool? sorry had to,I've been told that several times cause I'm usually carrying a metal milk crate with me while walking toward a truck

Lose the running boards and I'd call that a truck. :)

Isn't it typically an accelerator pump problem if it lays down when the throttle is goosed? Does it get any better with the air filter pulled off?

I have no real idea on anything gasser anymore, but pulling the filter might tell you if it's leaning out or going rich when it lays down. :?
