Slide-in camper weight?

Postby Arnold Layne » Sat Feb 02, 2013 12:20 pm

Anybody have a good guess what a camper weighs? It is on my "new" '90 truck, waiting for a it's new owner, and I'm itchin' to unload it so I can flog the truck a little and see what I've got. It is as wide as the dually fenders, sticks out about a foot past the rear bumper and the leading edge is about ten inches ahead of the rear edge of the hood. Fully equipped. It feels heavy. Had planned to weigh it on the way home but I was too excited about fresh trash and spaced it off. Thanks

There's a member on here ( 1stgenFarmboy ) that will probably help you out with weights as he put one similar on his dually conversion and added air bags if I'm not mistaken. He will most likely chime in later on. You would think that there would be an info plate with serial numbering and weight specs attached to the unit........

It feels like 4K! The truck does have some kind of lift but it may be in the shocks, I don't think it has real bags. You can hear a little compressor bump on moving over uneven terrain, has an "Air-Lift" sticker on the window. It does have a couple info tags but I couldn't find anything about wieght, but that certainly does not mean it isn't there.

There should be a tag that states dry weight somewhere on it, if not get a year and brand and do alitle
lookin around on rvtraider.com or jump on rv.net forum and ask in the truck camper section.

from my experance 4k in the bed feels like towing 20k on a trailer, my camper "says 3,800lb dry but
i have not had it on a scale, however all the poweres to be on the camper forums say thats 600-1000 lbs
low, i know i hauled it home with no overloads/airbags/or good shocks, and it was hard enough on it
that it broke a fuel tank strap.

for the first few miles each time i load up my camper it feels like it's gonna break my frame in half, but i get used
to it after a while....

just for visual referance....

Thanks, that is a nice looking truck! Your camper appears to be about the same as mine, same make, mine is a couple years older and no slider. 8)

yeh thats a qween sized bed up there, i can drive in a pretty good rain with-out the wipers  and i never squint from the sun.. :D

i went a little overboard with that sized camper, but the dealer made the deal i wanted with my 07 28ft travel trailer so i almost had to do it.

i could always set it on the front of my 25ft gooseneck and haul a jeep on the back. :P

My leading edge may be a little shorter, but not a bunch, it is about right on the centerline of the front axle. Also found the weights tag, it has mostly turned to nothing and the good parts are missing. I had to go sit in it and make big truck noises last night.
