need opinion on gauge brands

Postby ellis93 » Thu Jun 06, 2013 5:32 pm

Since my beloved autometer gauges are a fuzz higher than I want to spend these days, especially since I'm having to build my truck at the same time,I'm looking at different brands. I'm leaning towards the glow schit....huh I mean glowshift gauges. They seem kinda reasonably priced and they've oneset that I'd even consider buying,my problem is knowing if they are any good.
Are they worth their money?

1. Isspro
2. Autometer

If you don't want to go that route, I'd PERSONALLY run down to an autozone or carquest and pick up the cheapest crap brand they have...................THEY WORK.

The ONLY and I mean ONLY gauge I have EVER had go bad on me was an Autometer.............3 out of 5 autometers I've ran have had issues.

I really like my Isspro's, spendy, but worth every penny. Good, quality gauges.

I've heard a few good things about Glowshift gauges, but the vast majority of people that purchase them say they're garbage. In my opinion, Isspro is by far and away the best quality gauge you can buy. Fantastic customer service, too.

I do too Jon,problem with them is finding what you want in stock....least its what I'm finding or experiencing. Also most of their gauges require you to purchase your senders separate,

I'm not pursuing isspro gauges, their stuff is high as giraffe nuts

I've had one gauge that has went bad on me that was autometer. It was an manual oil pressure gauge that filled itself full of oil. The gauges in my truck are 3yrs old,the tach it close to 7yrs,I figure thats pretty good service for a 160$ tach, damn sure wont buy a "dealer installed" for that.

I'll just have to kick this around :|

I like my Westach stuff, but it's not cheap either. I'll also +1 the VDO's, they're damn good gauge.

Since you're wanting to go cheap, I agree with RC. Just but the huh?, cheapest gauge you can find. Auto meters are the cheapest gauge I know of that actually works, so anything cheaper is just going to be a throwaway. Might as well spend the least amount possible.

I've had two Westach dual gauges crap out on me, I really liked them when they worked but will replace them with something else.

Yeah, my dual gauge died on me as well. Not like it matters, Ellis would die if he saw the price of them.

My normal, single gauges have been flawless, once I got a new pyro probe, which was possibly the problem the whole time. Doesn't matter now, I got the 35psi gauge back in the day because I figured I'd never get above it.

My choices:
1. None
2. Autometer

It seems like Autometer is the cheapest non-disposable gauge, as mentioned before.

I have Gloshit in the FRT. They've been ok, but I hate the pyro. The PO put them in, and he got the 2400* pyro. The numbers are so cramped together that it's hard to read.

I like my autometers. Knock on wood i haven't had a problem with any of them. i had a isspro pryo crap out on me and decided to make a change. In all my years of messing with autometers in the race cars i've yet to have a problem. Heres a link to pics of the setup in the wifes ride.

Remember folks, pyrometer gauges run K type thermocoupler that you can get at McMaster for 30ish doll hairs.

I think I've had the truck 3 years now, 20k miles, they were in it when I got it, except for the trans temp. The guy I got the truck from had that so we did some trading and I put it in.
