Opinions on the value of my 2wd

Postby m880cummins » Sun Jun 23, 2013 3:51 pm

I am about to finish up the Crew Cab and need to sell the 2wd truck to pay off some debts I have. I'm looking to sell it in the next two weeks but I want you're guys opinion on the value of this thing.

IT is a 1990 D250 with a Getrag. It was retired as a farm truck since 2007. I am the second owner and rescued this truck from the fields by my house. I swapped the title, drove it to the shop and went through it. Found all the original dealer paperwork and brochures along with chrysler dealer maintenance receipts. He always took it to a chrysler dealer by the way it looks. It has 249XXX miles but the odometer stopped on it around the time it was taken off the road. My guess is it is somewhere near 300,000 since he used it on his property. Had typical paint peeling and I decided to DA sand the truck down to bare metal from the cab forward. Used some close matching paint and added a rust free drivers door which I plan to paint and put a good mirror on. Seat was trashed and I plan to change it over to red interior except for the dash (don't want to go through that hassle). I also installed a better turn signal switch along with a sport steering wheel. I added new front brake calipers, freshened up the gauges, put fresh oil in the engine and trans and greased everything up. I turned the pump up a little and the air box has been ported. I also added a perfect-condition grille surround and insert because the originals were trashed. Tailights were broken and tailgate was missing so I replaced those. I've been driving it since April 2nd with no issues. Needs some more and I don't have the time or money to bother with keeping it. Bed has dents and rust and the only other rust is in the roof. Floors and rockers are nice as well as fenders. Has a Dana 70 with power lok and 4.10 gears. It would make a great donor truck or a project truck for someone.

I'd like to get $3000 for it. Is this a ballpark number for a truck like this once I do some final things to it?

Wow the story on mine is the same  I woke up a barn find too.

You'll take a beating being a 2wd. A Getrag does help though. I gave $1500 for mine with a 727 and the body was flat rough. Asking $3000 is reasonable. I'd take the first $2500 and don't turn your nose up when someone waves $2000 under your nose.

The market sucks. Like bad

I was as low as 2k for my 1 ton flatbed 1991 intercooled truck.
Good Luck getting any more than 2k without parting it out.

Truthfully, probably the best place to TRY to get more is on Ebay, even though they are way overpriced for listing and selling fees.
Even there you'll probably still get a buyer that flakes.

Mark.

I think being a dually hurt you all's selling price more than anything. I just don't see much of a point for a 2wd dually unless its a highway-only towing truck, and just about everyone would rather have a newer truck for trips like that.

Being a single wheel, stick truck would make that one much more likely for mileage/DD duties. Probably up the price on it compared to a dually a bit.

Out here, where a loose Cummins brings $1500-$2500. That truck would go for about $1500.00 but then again, 2wd aren't worth a thing out where I'm at.

That truck is at the point of being parted out for more money than it's worth.................well, then again a non i/c engine doesn't bring NEARLY what an i/c engine does.

That makes a good donor truck for someone making a motorhome or something of that sorts.

Which I feel is totally whacked.
Stock to stock, a non-intercooled engine has a better pump, bigger injectors and responds more to the typical tweaks when compared to an intercooled engine.

Anyways... Charlie, you'll take a beating on this truck. If you price it at $3000 (the value of parts), your phone will be silent. People don't understand the concept of an "asking price". If it had original paint in good shape with no rust and around 100k miles, you'd still be hard pressed to get over $5k. Buyers don't want 2wds or trucks that aren't in great shape for a cheap price. Few folks out there are 1st gen diehards like us.

Good luck with the sale.

Folks, m880cummins, I apologize that others "Issue" has spilled into this thread.

I've gone through and cleaned it up as best as I can. m880cummins posted this thread for the purposes of getting an idea what his truck is worth. As with any other thread, if you've nothing to contribute, go read something else.

As it stands, the property owner gave me the keys to the gate, concession stand, and the light's breaker box. I have the ball, the glove, and am standing on the mound.

If you don't care for the way I run this ball-field, leave.

Don't post anything else in this thread that doesn't deal specifically with the topic at hand.
