Well this topic lit off like 5Fg gunpowder on a dry dessert day!

Getting back to the original topic - we have to look at the REASONs why it cost so much. You have to pay the manufacturing cost which includes the cost of the materials + the workers & executive wages + the benefits & health care plan + the future retirement plan + the retirees + import duties if/where they apply + the local taxes + the taxes for real estate + the shareholders of the company if a dividend is paid + product liability insurance. And I'm sure there are few more things that i have missed.

Folks, I apologize that we have one or more members who insist on pushing their luck.

Let's try again. :)

And remember, I can only act upon those problems that I am made aware of. If you experience crap from a fellow member here, let me know.

Prices are also set to where the market will bear. Obviously, they ARE selling. No way I'd spend that much coin on one myself. That's my prerogative. For someone to buy a new one, for whatever reason, is theirs. Isn't that the American dream? Though, if you can't pay cash, I think one is a fool to take a loan on a grocery getter that costs that much.

My Mother in Law bought her house for 60k......and its a decent house with a decent yard. All I can do is look at them and dream. Makes me wonder what they will cost in 15-20 years though....

Here's a preview of what you can expect as a pick up truck BEFORE that time period passes:
http://www.motortrend.com/auto_shows/de ... to_01.html

I predict that in 20 years or less gasoline and diesel vehicles will be regulated out of being produced due to clean air emissions standards. In other words the manufacturing cost to meet the pollution requirements will become too cost prohibitive for production.

I can't justify buying a new diesel truck. I don't run it hard enough to get it to regen for 1 thing, and I use it more for a drive to work vehicle than as a work vehicle. Cost is another reason. I've said for years the best way to buy a vehicle is to get one 2-3 years old. It still has factory warranty and the major depreciation is off it.
And I paid $60k for my house, 1 acre of land in the village, and I have a barn with a big lean-to shed on 1 side. I bought it from my father, but it was assessed for around $88 when I got it.
In 1975, you could buy a brandy new 1/2 ton 4X4 short box Dodge for about $5k. ;)

Same here Pete. Just doesn't make sense to me at all. My boss' grandpa is always saying "why don't you get a newer one? Even a 2000 something?" I keep telling him, I'm building what I want, and it's paid for. I can buy a chitload of parts, for what a newer one costs.

My dad's saying is "I have the best truck out there. Paid for." ALOT has to go wrong on an older truck to equal a monthly payment.

That's what dad always told me, you can either own an older truck and pay maintain it or buy a new truck and pay to own it.

I think someone who doesn't know how to work on stuff may be better off having a warranty and payments but otherwise you'd just be throwing money away on something new.

I'd LOVE to own a Common Rail truck again (5.9)

However, here are the issues with that

They are now old enough that they need to be maintained........they are EXPENSIVE to maintain.

They are still just as expensive to buy now as they were back when I owned one ('06-08' ish)

I refuse to pay that much right now. I look at what I put into my current rig (now it is 99% performance) and cringe, I just absolutely can't justify spending 20k+ on a used truck that requires 3x the money in maintenance (when something does go wrong) as my current truck.

If i had 60-70k to spend on a truck it would be a nice clean "SOUTHERN" 98 12v 5 spd 3500 dually EC, and I believe
I could find one for 20k or so, then with the rest of the money make a nice toy out of my truck and try to beat David's
1/4 mile time.

I do like how quiet the newer Diesels are but I love the sound of a 12V with 5inch pipe.

And, still gotta maintain it too. Costs a lot more to do that.

That's true. But, ignorance is expensive.

Why do you think I bought a Kelderman? Rides better than a 1/2t now. :D

Cmon now. How many of you would look more than twice at these trucks if you had the money to buy and support this truck? I know i would. They are a damn fine truck.
