I'm done with all vehicle technology...........

Postby RCCUMMINS89 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 5:59 pm

So, after earlier this summer.......our Chevy Aveo blew the timing belt apart (40k-ish miles since replaced)(still haven't fixed the darn thing)

And I bought a throw away car (97 cavalier) that is now acting up.

I have come to realize that I have NEVER had a Cummins leave me stranded. EVER Only down side is they don't get the fuel economy that cars get.

I'm also super pissed that this wonderful world can only pull off 30mpg out of a tiny car.

So the above whining leads to this...............

I want to have an array of small 4x4 vehicles (jeep Cherokees for example) that have wonderful things like 3bt and 4bt in them that are capable of 30-40mpg.

Has anyone ever seen a 3bt for sale?

I love my Honda fwiw. Paid 1200 for it 3 years ago and only did oil changes, distributor once 55$, and a radiator 300$. Gets me 27mpg country roads between home and work (15mi) and 31mpg on long highway stretches. Now has 236k miles on it and has only had 1 set of plugs put in. The original owner rebuilt the front end a month before he sold it to me. That is it. Find an old Honda

^ good advice.....can't beat a Camry either, especially a v6 car. Camry cars don't bend valves when the t belt breaks either, both motors freewheel.

Well............let me add to my frustrations.

I just can't deal with a car getting under 35mpg, it just upsets me every time I put fuel in it. It's a mental thing, but I just feel a holed every time.

Now the other side of this is...........I can work on and trouble shoot a ve pump cummins in about a half hour. I don't have any of this, this controls this and that over there gets a sensor that feedsback to this non sense.

Ellis, you're used to these newer vehicles due to you've been keeping up on them. This to me is like throwing a lawn mower mechanic under the hood of a 6.7 and asking him why it don't go.

I want simplicity back. Not some vehicle that is less troublesome than others.

Let me rephrase this

I want a Cummins in everything I own. I want them smaller so that I can get 40mpg out of a nicer vehicle.

Give me a 3bt............ I want one and I want one now.

Someone had a 3 cylinder b series Cummins on compd asking questions about it a few years ago IIRC. Can't remember if it was turboed or not. Have Pete look up what Case tractor it may have come in.

I heard those things are as rough as a dried corn cob idling. What you gonna do about that? If you expect a WOMAN to put up with that your nuttier than a port o potty at a peanut festival.....guaranteed

I think it would be cool to see a grand cherokee or cherokee with one in it,but creature comfort for the little lady would be an issue.

Good idea................here I come pete.

As far as creature comfort............grand Cherokees are awesome.......as far as the rough idle. Ya, I don't know about that.......I could see where they'd be rough

But, I give her nice seats and a/c and she's happy. She loves driving my truck now that it's got better steering. It rides way too stiff for her but a Cherokee rides nice.

Aren't there hydraulic mounts on the 4b bread truck to battle that. If the smaller motor would be able to have them bolt to it..........

Ya, that'd work slick (in theory)

I mean I'd consider a 4bt in a Cherokee............I'm pretty sure it'd pull 30ish mpg, but I think that a 3bt might be able to pull a little more if done right. Could always pick a smaller candidate too.

Hey, anything that is of that size..........and I can bolt to a car/truck transmission and can pull 40+(maybe 35+)mpg and I'm sold.

Disclaimer - as long as it's all mechanical and not stupid like the new ones.

Ya....I feel a Cherokee would be just about perfect. Axles are strong enough to hold 32-33" tires, wouldn't have to change the suspension or axles to carry the load. Is big enough that 4 adults can get in it, yet still light enough that it's fairly light.

A series Cummins? More info please.
