Ford brake help

Postby dazedandconfused » Tue Oct 22, 2013 5:48 pm

Okay dads 97 F350, 4x4, PSD is driving me nuts. The brakes have always sucked on this thing so we have been trying to get them working. Abs light has always been on and its never had rear brakes. We changed brake booster, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers, rotors and rear shoes. The pedal is spongy and always goes to the floor. I had him bypass what I believe was the rear abs module and we now have back brakes. Bled everything out and it now stops but pedal still feels funny and will go almost to the floor. What do you guys think its problem is?

If its a reman booster that would be my first thought. They do weirdo stuff, especially a one cardone.
Wait.....that one has a vac pump that's belt driven right? Check the vacuum.

Have someone step on the brakes hard while you watch. Look all the rubber hoses over good with pressure in them. Those year Fords have been known for hoses that balloned under pressure.

Thanks Philip I'll look at it this weekend. I noticed when pushing on the brakes that booster moves a lot and every once in a while you will get a noise.

Have you ever considered converting it to hydroboost, Andy?
I bet that would cure that thing. I've never had issues with the electric vac pumps so I'm no help there....but the reman boosters are junk. Find a used one if you can.

How's the adjustment on the rear shoes?
