I find it hard to believe that is why it chews them up. Maybe more strain on them because you run 4x4 more often in the winter?

My pile gets ran all winter long, some county roads that I have to take to work and back aren't maintained hardly at all, so four wheel drive is a necessity. And then I hit the interstates...laden with rock salt and that brine spray crap. Good thing it has a fresh body to rot away ;)

Same here, working nights, usually all the roads haven't been plowed, and I'm busting drifts to get home. Usually park the '93 and bomb around in the '77, but at 6mpg, can't afford that trip, so we're taking the dually instead. Just have to wash it when it gets home ;)

Nope.... it ONLY blows the rear most joint. Never blows them until about Dec....then It'll eat about 3 before winter is over.

Due to the massive tq along with a steep drive line angle.... it allows dirt/grime/DE-ICER into the joint, which seems to start eating anything away that doesn't have grease. (this is my assumption). Regardless of how much I grease that joint.... about once a month, I take it apart and it is nothing but rust..... summer rolls around and no more joint issues.

I RARELY use 4x4 in the winter unless I'm actually off the road

Mines getting the power lok rebuilt. Yesterday it hinted that it wants a new radio. i was driving home from wkrk and it started changing stations, bands, and maxing out the bass and volume. It kept turning itself on after i hit the power button. Its now laying on the passenger floor lol.

The 90 is getting a Dana 80 a dually bed a locker some gears, 271, different clutch and a motor build. It's mostly going to be a pile of parts ready for summer/ next winter depending on how busy spring is.

Who did you have in mind? It can be really hard to find a good auto shop.

That's the problem, there really isn't anyone around me that builds diesel transmissions. And all of the big name diesel trans companies are about 1500 miles away minimum.

Considering that they are less than a half hour from me.... and I pretty much know every single diesel guru in the area...and I haven't heard of them... I'm going to say they haven't built a name for themselves (yet maybe?). Not sure if that is for a reason or not?

To be totally honest..... I don't know a single person/shop/business that I would have build an automatic trans for me (if I had an auto), it is VERY hard to find a good auto builder for a diesel application that will hold up.

Build it yourself. There isn't much simpler than a Chrysler 4 speed, save a Chrysler 3 speed.

BC has a good write up on how to do so and posts from TXS are very helpful since he's had his hands in more Chrysler autos than all of us combined.

My truck has also been getting gifts all year, so this Christmas we decided to not get each other anything.

He just couldn't resist though. :yuck:
